Vietnam Day in Greece 2026 opens in Athens, honouring President Ho Chi Minh's life and revolutionary cause

The opening ceremony was attended by Dimitris Koutsoumpas, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece; representatives from the Greek Parliament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other ministries and organizations; ambassadors and representatives from various countries in the diplomatic corps; as well as numerous Greek friends and the Vietnamese community in Greece.
In her opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong emphasized that the theme of Vietnam Day 2026 was chosen to introduce Greek and international friends to the life and revolutionary cause of President Ho Chi Minh. He is honoured by UNESCO as a hero of national liberation and an outstanding cultural figure of Vietnam. He is also a symbol of the aspiration for national liberation, inspiring movements for independence, justice, and peace worldwide.
Dimitris Koutsoumpas, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece, spoke highly of President Ho Chi Minh's life and career, highlighting him as a symbol of the global revolutionary movement and an international cultural figure. He left an indelible mark on the arduous struggle for national independence of the Vietnamese people. The General Secretary welcomed the organization of Vietnam Day in Greece 2026, which provided the Greek public with an opportunity to learn about Vietnam's historical and cultural aspects, thereby strengthening the friendship and solidarity between the two nations.

The highlight of Vietnam Day in Greece 2026 is the thematic exhibition “From Young Patriot Nguyen Tat Thanh to Symbol of National Liberation Ho Chi Minh”, showcasing significant images and documents about President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary activities. Speaking at the ceremony, Le Thi Phuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh President's Relic Site, expressed her hope that through exhibitions, displays, and cultural exchanges, the Greek public would gain a comprehensive view of his life and revolutionary career as well as Vietnam's struggle for independence.
Additionally, the event displayed images and documents about the Vietnam-Greece friendship and cooperation over the years; and some propaganda paintings from the Vietnam War era, part of a collection organized by the first Greek Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Platon Alexis Hadjimichalis, reproduced in large format from the originals.
A significant highlight of the program was the launch of a Greek-translated book featuring selected works of President Ho Chi Minh from 1920-1969, a publication in collaboration between New Star Cinema and The Gioi Publishers, supported by the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece.

Besides the exhibitions, visitors also experienced Vietnamese cultural space with musical performances featuring traditional Vietnamese instruments, orchestrated and performed by Vietnamese artists from the Vietnamese Cultural Center in France, along with distinctive Vietnamese dishes prepared by the Vietnamese Embassy in Greece and Vietnamese restaurants in Athens.
The songs “Bai ca Ho Chi Minh” and “Nhu co Bac trong ngay vui dai thang” resonated vibrantly in the exhibition space, sung by Vietnamese and Greek friends participating in the program, creating a proud and friendly Vietnamese atmosphere with international friends. Vietnam Day in Greece 2026 is a meaningful and practical activity, contributing to enhancing people-to-people exchanges, promoting the image of Vietnam's land, culture, and people, while continuing to strengthen the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Greece.
