Vietnam calls for solidarity and support for Cuba at Non-Aligned Movement meeting

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla expressed his appreciation for the solidarity and invaluable support of the Non-Aligned Movement member countries towards Cuba; providing updates on the severe impacts of the blockade and embargo measures, particularly the coercive measures targeting energy supplies and the imposition of secondary sanctions on third-party entities.
According to the Minister, these measures are causing significant difficulties for Cuba's socio-economic conditions and the lives of its people, especially in essential areas such as energy, food, and healthcare; while also increasing concerns over threats of force against Cuba.
During discussions at the meeting, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, expressed deep sympathy with the challenges faced by the Cuban people.
The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam opposes unilateral coercive measures against Cuba, considering them actions contrary to the fundamental principles of international law, including sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, free trade, and international maritime rights, as well as the right of each nation to choose its path of development.
Vietnam also opposes any actions threatening or using force against Cuba, asserting that dialogue and diplomacy are the right and sustainable paths to address differences, avoiding increased tensions and instability for regional and international peace and security.
The Head of the Vietnamese Mission emphasized that solidarity with peoples facing pressure, imposition, and injustice has always been a core value of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was founded on principles of independence, sovereign equality, non-interference, and peaceful coexistence.
The Vietnamese representative called on Non-Aligned Movement member countries to continue upholding the spirit of solidarity, strongly opposing the blockade and embargo against Cuba, contributing to the protection of the Movement's foundational principles.
On this occasion, Ambassador Do Hung Viet highlighted the traditional, trustworthy friendship and unwavering solidarity of Vietnam with Cuba; affirming that Vietnam always stands with Cuba, committed to continuing to enhance cooperation and support in food security, agricultural development, and renewable energy, to help share the difficulties faced by the Cuban people.
