The event was attended by the Permanent Representative of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) to the United Nations, the Chair of the Francophone Ambassadors Group in New York, and numerous ambassadors, heads of delegations, and representatives of OIF member and observer countries, along with friends from the Francophone community at the United Nations.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized that International Francophonie Day and French Language Day at the United Nations—both celebrated on March 20 annually—are important occasions to honor the role and vitality of the French language, as well as the values that the Francophone space fosters and pursues, including multilateralism, cultural diversity, dialogue, solidarity, and international cooperation.
Ambassador Do Hung Viet affirmed that the French language continues to play a crucial role in the activities of the United Nations, contributing to the maintenance of multilingualism—a foundational value of multilateralism—and promoting exchange, understanding, and connection among nations and peoples.
The ambassador reiterated that as an active and responsible member of the Francophone community, Vietnam views Francophonie not only as a linguistic space but also as a space for sharing, solidarity, and joint action towards common goals of the international community.
