Vietnam and United Nations enhance cooperation, promote development projects

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang expressed gratitude to Ms. Sonja Leighton-Kone and United Nations agencies, particularly UNOPS, for their active cooperation and support to Vietnam in recent times. This support has been especially significant in areas such as green transition, energy, and climate change response, contributing to the fulfillment of emission reduction commitments and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Deputy Minister shared that the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam has set the goal for Vietnam to become a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed, high-income country by 2045. He emphasized Vietnam's priority in ensuring energy security and promoting a fast and sustainable growth model linked to green transition.

In the context of Vietnam and the United Nations developing the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for the 2027-2031 period, the Deputy Minister urged UNOPS and other United Nations agencies to continue promoting the implementation of practical and effective projects aligned with Vietnam's development priorities. These include supporting the development of science and technology, building high-quality human resources, and ensuring financial resources.
The Deputy Executive Director of UNOPS thanked the Government of Vietnam for facilitating UNOPS's operations. She noted that through its office in Bangkok (Thailand), UNOPS has been effectively implementing numerous cooperative projects with Vietnam's ministries and sectors. She expressed her admiration for Vietnam's leading role in successfully piloting the One United Nations Initiative and its continued active contributions to efforts aimed at reforming and streamlining the United Nations system, especially the UN80 Initiative by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Ms. Sonja Leighton-Kone highlighted the proactive and leading role of the Vietnamese Government in building the new phase of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. She affirmed UNOPS's readiness to participate and cooperate based on Vietnam's current development priorities and directions.
