On the afternoon of June 6, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet received Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki in a courtesy meeting on the occasion of Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet’s upcoming appointment as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York, USA.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing substance and comprehensiveness of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across all areas. They also commended the successful official visit to Vietnam by Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru in April 2025.
Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet and Ambassador Ito Naoki agreed to continue promoting bilateral cooperation, with a focus on developing Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, implementing the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative, advancing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), boosting cultural exchanges, and strengthening connections between Japanese businesses and Vietnamese localities.
The two sides also agreed to enhance close coordination at the United Nations, particularly as Vietnam prepares to serve as President of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) scheduled for April–May 2026.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet presented Ambassador Ito Naoki with a letter from President Luong Cuong inviting Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru to attend the Signing Ceremony for the UN Convention against Cybercrime, to be held in Hanoi from October 25–26.
