
UN strengthens support for Vietnam in climate change and energy transition projects

Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet praised the UN for its vital role in supporting member states in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing climate change. He updated Mr. Selwin Hart on the progress of joint projects under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to fulfilling its international pledges on climate action and energy transition.
In response to Mr. Selwin Hart’s remarks on the growing challenges facing multilateral cooperation, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet emphasized Vietnam’s continued collaboration with the UN to uphold and promote multilateralism, with the UN playing a central role.
Mr. Selwin Hart underscored that climate change will remain a top priority in the UN’s agenda. He expressed admiration for Vietnam’s recent efforts in transforming its economy and noted that the pace of energy transition should be aligned with each country's capabilities.
He affirmed that the UN will continue to support Vietnam in implementing climate and energy projects, particularly by encouraging other countries and financial institutions to provide Vietnam with access to concessional financing.
