Vietnam and Chile promote parliamentary cooperation, expand Comprehensive Partnership

In his speech at the session, Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong highlighted Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy, emphasizing the country’s commitment to multilateralism, independence, self-reliance, and respect for international law.
The Ambassador also reviewed Vietnam’s active contributions to regional and global forums such as ASEAN, APEC, the United Nations, and the CPTPP.
Regarding bilateral relations, he affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to its comprehensive partnership with Chile—the first Latin American country to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Vietnam in 2011, which officially came into effect in 2014. The Ambassador proposed several practical areas of cooperation, including defense and security, renewable energy, trade and investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

He particularly underscored the role of parliamentary cooperation in consolidating political foundations and creating momentum for bilateral relations, through delegation exchanges and sharing legislative experience in areas such as digital transformation, sustainable development, and gender equality.
Chilean senators appreciated the Ambassador’s presentation, expressed interest in cooperative initiatives, and shared many similar perspectives on regional issues, including those concerning the Asia-Pacific and the South China Sea.
The session marked a significant milestone in fostering mutual understanding and deepening parliamentary relations between Vietnam and Chile—a key pillar of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
