Vietnam affirms readiness to support Cambodia in successfully hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit: Deputy FM

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang expressed his delight at the positive development of Vietnam-Cambodia relations, especially with the visit of Cambodian People's Party Chairman and Senate President Hun Sen, leading a high-level Cambodian delegation to attend the 80th National Day of Vietnam, along with the participation of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in the parade.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang highly appreciated the cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Welcoming Cambodia's hosting of the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026, the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed confidence that the Summit will be a great success, marking a new milestone for Francophonie cooperation in Asia-Pacific. This would enhance the image and position of Francophonie members in the region and promote a dynamic, potential-rich Southeast Asia. The Deputy Foreign Minister affirmed Vietnam's readiness to coordinate and support Cambodia in successfully organizing this Summit.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that Vietnam, as the initiator of Francophonie economic cooperation at the 7th Francophonie Summit, attaches great importance to strengthening economic ties with Francophonie countries. He noted that the Francophonie economic space offers significant potential for Vietnam and Cambodia to advance collaboration, particularly in agriculture, energy, digital transformation, sustainable tourism, science and technology, and innovation. On this basis, Vietnam hopes that economic cooperation will remain a central focus at the 20th Summit.

Secretary of State in charge of Francophonie Sun Sovanna expressed his pleasure at visiting Vietnam as Hanoi prepares to celebrate the 80th National Day. He commended Vietnam’s development achievements and highly appreciated the country’s role, position, and commitment within the Francophonie forum.

Mr. Sun Sovanna stressed that Cambodia’s hosting of the Summit in 2026 will serve as an important opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of Cambodia and regional members to the values of Francophonie. He expressed hope for Vietnam’s active coordination and participation in the preparations to ensure the Summit’s success.

The 20th Francophonie Summit is scheduled for October 2026 in Cambodia, marking the second time the event has been held in the Asia-Pacific, following the 1997 Summit in Hanoi.
