On May 23 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong received Ambassador of Singapore to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam. Attending the meeting was also Ambassador Rena Lee, Singapore’s candidate for the position of Judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2036 term.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong highly appreciated Ambassador Jaya Ratnam's active contributions to strengthening Vietnam–Singapore relations in recent years. He also congratulated Singapore on the successful general election held in early May 2025 and expressed his confidence that the Singaporean Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, will continue to achieve new accomplishments.
Emphasizing Vietnam’s high regard for its relationship with Singapore, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong noted that bilateral ties have witnessed significant progress, particularly with the elevation of the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership following the official visit of Party General Secretary To Lam in March 2025.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong proposed that both sides focus discussions on promoting key areas of cooperation in the near future, including the early adoption of the Action Program for implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as agreed by the two Prime Ministers during Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s recent official visit to Vietnam.

The two sides agreed on the need to broaden cooperation across various fields, at different levels and through multiple channels, including Party-to-Party cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. They especially emphasized the importance of exchanges between the younger generations of both countries to lay a solid foundation for the continued growth of bilateral ties.
Both sides also reaffirmed that Vietnam and Singapore share common views on many regional and international issues, including the importance of upholding the rule of law in international relations and the critical role of multilateral forums and international legal institutions in addressing global challenges.
