Established in 1976, UEH has gradually developed from a university specialising in economics into one of Vietnam’s key multidisciplinary higher education institutions.

Behind these impressive figures lies a journey of nearly 50 years of building quality training, research, and integration, along with an educational and academic ecosystem that is increasingly deeply connected to the global knowledge network.

Nearly 50 years of building human resources for Vietnam

Established in 1976, UEH has gradually developed from a university specialising in economics into one of Vietnam’s key multidisciplinary higher education institutions. For nearly 50 years, UEH has maintained a training capacity of over 30,000 students annually across all levels and programs; it has trained over 280,000 alums, including over 250,000 bachelor’s graduates and over 30,000 master’s and doctoral graduates. From state management agencies and domestic and foreign businesses to international organisations and the startup ecosystem, many generations of UEH alums hold important positions, serving as integral members of the human resources contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development and integration.

In October 2023, UEH officially transformed from a university into a multidisciplinary, multi-field university, ushering in a new phase of development. From its foundation in economics, business, and management, the training and research space has expanded to include law, public administration, technology, engineering, design, the social sciences, and interdisciplinary fields, aiming to meet new demands for human resources in the digital, green, and sustainable economies.

Since its founding in training human resources for Vietnam, UEH has embarked on a new journey: bringing the quality of education and academic capacity of a Vietnamese university closer to international standards and networks.

From academic quality to position on the world education map

With a consistent internationalisation strategy across training, research, and academic networking, UEH is gradually improving its quality in line with international standards and increasing its presence on the global education map.

UEH is currently ranked in the Top 501-600 universities worldwide by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and in the Top 101-200 universities worldwide for contributions to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the THE Sustainability Impact Rankings. Regionally, UEH is among the Top 250 universities in Asia, the Top 15 universities in Southeast Asia (THE), and the Top 301+ universities in Asia (QS Asia).

In its specialized fields, UEH’s position is recognized in many international rankings such as: Top 1 in Vietnam for Business, Management and Accounting; Top 2 in Arts and Humanities, Economics, Econometrics and Finance; Top 3 in Social Sciences (SCImago); Economics and Econometrics in the Top 251-300 worldwide (QS); Top 301+ worldwide in Economics and Business and Top 501+ worldwide in Social Sciences (THE)...

These results acknowledge UEH’s long-term investment in training quality, research capacity, sustainable development and internationalisation. Building on this foundation, UEH continues to expand its network of over 125 international educational partners, promoting cooperation in training, research and academic exchange on a global scale.

Training quality is a crucial foundation for UEH’s internationalisation. To date, 30 of UEH’s training programs have been accredited in accordance with FIBAA (European) standards, and 7 programs have achieved AUN-QA accreditation, demonstrating a standardisation process aligned with regional and international quality standards. With a multidisciplinary university model, UEH trains in core fields similar to those of many leading universities worldwide, such as Business, Economics, Management, Social Sciences, Law, Technology, and Design, while expanding into new fields such as AI in business, Logistics Technology, Smart Manufacturing, Architecture, and Smart Urban Design.

Following the Global Education orientation, which combines global thinking with the ability to apply knowledge to local contexts, UEH brings international experiences into the training environment right here in Vietnam. Students can choose from part-time and full-time English programs, as well as joint, exchange, and dual-degree programs, thereby gaining access to international knowledge and academic environments and expanding their learning pathways at partner universities worldwide.

In 2026, UEH will enrol students in 6 international dual-degree programs taught entirely in English, in cooperation with universities in Macao, Germany, France, South Korea, and New Zealand. In addition, UEH will implement 13 undergraduate exchange and joint programs in 2026, as well as international cooperation programs at various levels of education. UEH students have the opportunity to study, earn credits, and gain experience at partner universities; conversely, the Vietnam Study Program welcomes international students to UEH to study Vietnam’s economy, society, and culture. The two-way exchange contributes to the creation of a multicultural learning environment, helping learners develop professional skills, foreign-language proficiency, global thinking, and the ability to adapt to the international labour market.

Creating an academic ecosystem connecting global knowledge

From internationalising education, UEH continues to expand connections through its International Academic Ecosystem, bringing together research organisations, scholars, graduate students, and global partners to participate in training, research, and knowledge creation. The ecosystem focuses on three pillars: developing academic talent, developing leading research directions, and increasing the impact of research on economic, social, environmental, and sustainable development issues.

Accordingly, UEH has launched four flagship programmes: the UEH100 International Scholars Program, which aims to build a global network of approximately 100 distinguished scholars by 2045; the International Research Lab (IRL), which fosters specialised research groups involving both domestic and international scholars; the International Project-based PhD Program, which integrates doctoral education with international research projects; and the Postdoctoral Program, which provides an enabling environment for early-career researchers to advance their academic and research development.

These four programs form a continuous academic development chain, from attracting international scholars and forming strong research groups to training and developing a generation of young scientists; thereby promoting international publications, research products, and solutions that are valuable to the community.
