The 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen Transmission Line is a national key project approved by the Prime Minister, with the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) as the investor.
This is a double-circuit 500kV transmission line with a total length of 229.5 km, encompassing 468 tower foundations. The project has a total investment of over 7,410 billion VND, traversing the provinces of Lao Cai and Phu Tho, starting at the 500kV Lao Cai Substation and ending at the 500kV Vinh Yen Substation.
Once operational, this 500kV line will be capable of transmitting approximately 3,000 MW from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid, enhancing electricity import capacity. It will also create a strong link between regions within the power system, improving the safety and stability of the national grid, reducing energy loss in transmission, and boosting EVN's business efficiency.

The project will help ensure power supply and energy security for the Northern region, contributing to economic-social development, national defense, and energy security for the country's industrialization and modernization process.
Due to the urgent nature of the 500kV Lao Cai-Vinh Yen line project, all units and companies in the power sector, from consulting to surveying, designing, material selection, and bidding, have been actively involved from the outset. Bui Phuong Nam, Director of Power Project Management Unit 1, stated that the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line is considered a record in the power sector, with the entire preparation to groundbreaking process completed in just five months.

The project requires the selection of experienced and reputable contractors from the beginning. Leading companies in construction and the power sector, such as Song Da Corporation, CT 1 Company, and Power Construction Company 4, have mobilized highly skilled technicians with good health and physical strength to participate in construction under extremely challenging weather and mountainous terrain conditions, where transporting tens of thousands of tons of steel to high mountain slopes is no easy task. Each steel tower rising amidst the mountains is a new milestone, marking the progress and human determination.
