This is the first visit to an ASEAN country by General Secretary, President To Lam in his new role, demonstrating the importance and strong confidence in the increasingly developing cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Thailand, especially as the two countries approach the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The visit holds special significance in strengthening the traditional friendship between the peoples of the two countries, enhancing political trust, and promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.
Leaders from both sides agreed to establish a new mechanism to demonstrate political trust, deepen the relationship, and create a framework to promote cooperation in depth.
The focus is on the Action Program to implement the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand; at the same time, they agreed to boost cooperation in areas such as digital transformation, innovation, defense – security, and aim to soon raise bilateral trade turnover to 25 billion USD in the near future.
During the visit, Vietnam signed 20 cooperation and business agreements with Thailand in various fields such as science and technology, education, and cooperation between agencies and enterprises of the two countries.
These results create an important foundation to bring the Vietnam-Thailand relationship to a more substantive, effective, and sustainable development, meeting the practical interests of the peoples of the two countries, and contributing positively to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the region.

Regarding the visit to Udon Thani, Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh shared that this was a significant highlight. The act of General Secretary, State President To Lam offering incense in memory of President Ho Chi Minh – a symbol of the friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Thailand – and meeting with the overseas Vietnamese community, a bridge of friendship connecting the two countries, affirms the traditional, good, and meaningful relationship between the peoples of the two countries as a foundation to elevate the Vietnam-Thailand relationship to a new height.
The stop in Udon Thani conveys a profound message of the spirit of Vietnam-Thailand friendship and the affection and responsibility of the head of the Party and State towards the overseas Vietnamese community.
Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh stated: “In his speech at the meeting with the Vietnamese community in Udon Thani on the afternoon of May 27, General Secretary, President To Lam expressed gratitude to the Thai government for accompanying and supporting the overseas Vietnamese community in stabilizing their lives, integrating into the local society, and making important contributions to preserving the Ho Chi Minh Memorial. This is a particularly important symbol of the long-term, sustainable friendship and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Thailand.”

On the evening of May 28, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his spouse personally went to Don Mueang Airport (Bangkok) to bid farewell to General Secretary, State President To Lam and his spouse, concluding a successful visit to Thailand.
The visit by General Secretary, President To Lam, his spouse, and the high-level Vietnamese delegation received a very warm welcome. Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh expressed his emotions and gratitude to the Thai government and people for their attention and goodwill towards Vietnam.
On this occasion, Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh provided information about plans to organize events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand.

At the end of August 2026, the Consulate General will coordinate to organize the inauguration of the Vietnam Studies Center at Khon Kaen University, the Vietnam-Thailand Cultural Festival, including the Vietnam-Thailand Art Exchange Gala, and the opening of the first Vietnam Library at Udon Thani Royal University.
At the aforementioned events, there will also be the signing of cultural and educational cooperation agreements to enhance understanding and people-to-people exchanges, building a foundation for the increasingly good and sustainable development of Vietnam-Thailand relations.
