On the evening of June 22, the Vietnam Glory Program 2025 with the theme "Pride and Aspiration" took place at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labour Cultural Palace. The program honoured 13 groups and 6 individuals who have inspired the spirit of creativity, labour and the desire to contribute tirelessly for a strong country.

The 13 groups honoured included the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agency that plays the role of a strategic bridge, connecting more than 6 million overseas Vietnamese in more than 130 countries and territories with the Fatherland, promoting the resources and great affection of the global Vietnamese community for the development of the country.

In an interview with The World & Vietnam Report, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang said: “Being honoured at the ‘Glory of Vietnam’ program is meaningful not only to current officials but also to many generations of leaders and officials of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.

Over the past 65 years, generations of leaders and officials of the Committee have devoted themselves to the work of national unity, making great contributions to the cause of national construction and development.”

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, the overseas Vietnamese community has accompanied the nation not only with affection and patriotism, but also through material and intellectual contributions.

“It can be seen that over the past 20 years since Resolution 36 was issued, the overseas Vietnamese community has implemented 421 direct investment projects across 42 provinces and cities, with a total registered capital of 1.72 billion USD. From 1993 to 2024, remittances sent to Vietnam totaled nearly 250 billion USD. In addition, many overseas experts and intellectuals have returned to the country to teach, conduct research, and share knowledge. Notably, overseas Vietnamese also play a vital role in preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural values and the Vietnamese language abroad,” she emphasized.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that these results were achieved thanks to “the persistent advocacy, encouragement, and mobilization efforts of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, which has served as a common home for the overseas Vietnamese community.”

Established in 1959, with its predecessor being the Central Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese was the first agency with the specialized function of assisting the Government in implementing policies for overseas Vietnamese. Over the past six decades, the Committee has accompanied the Vietnamese community in more than 130 countries and territories, gradually concretizing the policy of great national unity and mobilizing overseas Vietnamese resources for national construction and defense.

In the context of the country entering a new stage of development, work related to overseas Vietnamese has become increasingly strategic. According to Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Trung Kien, this honour is not only a tribute to the previous generation, but also a source of motivation for the current and future generations to continue innovating their thinking and working methods, and to more strongly connect the overseas Vietnamese community with the nation's development.

The Committee has adopted the motto "Wherever there are overseas Vietnamese, there are organizations," and continues to support associations, clubs, and networks of Vietnamese youth, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs abroad.

At the same time, the Committee focuses on preserving the Vietnamese language, national cultural values, and religious practices within the community, thereby creating a sustainable spiritual foundation for the movement of overseas Vietnamese toward their homeland.

Being honoured at the “Glory of Vietnam 2025” program is not only a proud milestone in the Committee’s journey of over 65 years, but also a profound reminder of its mission to remain a reliable bridge—accompanying overseas Vietnamese in building a sustainable, strong, and prosperous Vietnam.
