Just before his visit, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez emphasized that "Vietnam has become a magnet for foreign investment" and affirmed that "thanks to the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, Spanish companies, leaders in sectors such as infrastructure and renewable energy, will be able to develop significant business opportunities in Vietnam."

In an interview with the press, Vietnam's Ambassador to Spain, Doan Thanh Song, stated that this was the first official visit to Vietnam by the Prime Minister of Spain since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1977. It is also the first official visit to Vietnam by a senior Spanish state leader since the visit of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia in 2006.

The visit is a vivid demonstration of the positive results of cooperation between the two countries in recent years, spanning politics, economy, trade, investment, culture, defense, security, education and training, and transportation.

The visit takes place at a very significant time, just after the two countries celebrated 15 years of establishing a Strategic Partnership in 2024, and ahead of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027.

Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Carmen Cano De Lasala said that Spain was the first European Union member country to sign a Strategic Partnership agreement with Vietnam in 2009. The country is also among the first to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement. This clearly demonstrates the strong desire for closer cooperation between the two nations to fully exploit the untapped potential in their bilateral relations.

"During the visit of our Prime Minister, agreements will be signed in areas such as investment, agriculture, political consultation, culture and sports, as well as cooperation between the diplomatic academies of the two countries. We are committed to making efforts to elevate bilateral relations to a new height," the Ambassador emphasized.
