RoK Daegu City reaffirms support for the Vietnamese community for development and integration

Daegu is the fourth largest city in Republic of Korea by population size (after Seoul, Busan, and Incheon) with approximately 2.4 million residents. It serves as the center of the entire Gyeongsangbuk region, significantly impacting the economy and culture of Southeast Korea.
Daegu is known for its strengths in robotics, the textile industry, and notably, it hosts the only national Korean Water Cluster, aiming to lead in technology and innovation in the global water industry.
During the meeting, Consul General Doan Phuong Lan expressed her impression of Daegu's commitment to implementing the “5 1 New Growth Industries Strategy for the Future”, which includes healthcare, future automobiles, green energy, water, robotics, and smart cities. This strategy aims to transform the economic structure and position Daegu as a “city of the future”.
Consul General Doan Phuong Lan and Acting Mayor Kim Jung Ki praised the cooperation between Daegu City and Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City, and Bac Ninh Province in recent times. They believe there is significant potential for future collaboration, especially in high-tech fields, smart cities, component manufacturing, wastewater treatment, and high-tech textiles.
Regarding people-to-people exchanges, both sides are confident that with the effective operation of the Daegu - Da Nang direct flight, exchanges between Daegu and the Gyeongsangbuk region with Vietnamese localities will continue to thrive, enhancing tourism and cultural exchanges between the two sides.
Acting Mayor Kim Jung Ki expressed his hope that the Vietnamese athletes will actively participate in the World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu in 2026.
With over 11,000 Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in Daegu City, the Vietnamese community is the largest foreign community here.
Acting Mayor Kim Jung Ki affirmed that the Daegu city government will continue to support and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community and other foreign communities to develop and integrate with the local society.
On this occasion, Consul General Doan Phuong Lan had a cordial meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Daegu.
