Prime Minister orders speeding up vaccine rollout amidst Omicron fears

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered speeding up COVID-19 vaccine rollout and enhancing the implementation of the pandemic prevention and control measures, especially ahead of the Lunar New Year Festival, according to a recently-signed Telegram.

The Telegram was issued amidst new developments of the pandemic in the capital city of Ha Noi and other localities, particularly the risks of outbreaks due to new variant Omicron.

Accordingly, localities were tasked to resolutely launch pandemic prevention and control measures in line with directions of the Government, the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, stay vigilant and strictly implement 5K.

The Prime Minister urged the People’s Committees of provinces and cities to step up vaccine rollout and organize mobile vaccination teams to administer persons at home.

The Ministry of Health is responsible for providing sufficient vaccines and treatment drugs and directs domestically-grown vaccine production as fast, safe and effective as possible.

The Ministry of Health was assigned to join hands with the Ministry of Education and Training and other relevant agencies to consider importing and inoculating COVID-19 vaccines for children under 18.

According to the Ministry of Health, Viet Nam has recorded 33 Omicron cases in Ha Noi (1), Quang Nam (14), Ho Chi Minh City (12), Hai Duong (1), Hai Phong (1), Thanh Hoa (2) and Da Nang (3). All of them are imported cases and were sent for medical quarantine upon their arrivals.

So far, the nation has documented 1,930,428 infection cases, including 1,596,956 recoveries and 34,787 fatalities.

As of January 11, as many as 162,375,421 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered. A total number of 71,386,323 people received the second jabs while 12,599,690 got the booster shots.
