Preparations underway for the state visit of the South African President to Vietnam

WVR - On the afternoon of October 22, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan received Mr. Ronald Lamola, South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who is visiting Hanoi to prepare for the State visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Vietnam from October 23-24, at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan expressed his pleasure in welcoming the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on his first visit to Vietnam.

On behalf of the leadership of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan thanked the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for their close coordination in promoting bilateral relations recently, especially in preparing for high-level visits and supporting cooperation between the ministries, sectors, and localities of the two countries.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan stated that the State visit of the South African President to Vietnam is the first head-of-state visit in nearly 20 years, expressing confidence that this will be an important milestone, creating momentum for the two countries' relations to develop significantly in the future.

South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ronald Lamola affirmed that the State visit of the South African President to Vietnam on October 23-24 holds significant importance in enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, mineral cooperation, and law enforcement cooperation.

Minister Ronald Lamola emphasized the need for both sides to promote export cooperation, connect businesses, diversify partners, and for the foreign ministries of both countries to closely coordinate to achieve these goals.

Mr. Ronald Lamola noted that the State visit of the South African President to Vietnam this month and the participation of Vietnam's senior leaders in the G20 Summit in South Africa in November are clear demonstrations of the importance of high-level delegation exchanges.

The South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed his commitment to working closely with Vietnam to best prepare for the activities of Vietnam's senior leaders attending the Summit.

Regarding multilateral cooperation, Minister Lamola stated that South Africa agrees to enhance cooperation at the United Nations, G77, African Union, and with ASEAN. He also congratulated and highly appreciated Vietnam for hosting the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime; acknowledging and supporting Vietnam's efforts in upholding international law.

The participation of the South African Minister of Justice at the signing ceremony reflects the country's commitment to ensuring cybersecurity.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan expressed agreement with the insights and assessments of the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation regarding the bilateral relations between the two countries and proposed several suggestions to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation between the two Ministries.

The focus is on coordinating diplomatic activities across all channels to strengthen political trust, while promoting cooperation in priority areas, with trade and investment cooperation serving as a driving force to enhance cooperation in various other fields.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan requested the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to advise the South African Government to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses and communities currently living and working in the country, affirming that effective cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs will further deepen bilateral relations in the future.
