South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa to pay a state visit to Vietnam

This marks the first visit by a South African President to Vietnam in nearly 20 years.
Vietnam and South Africa established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1993.
The two countries maintain a number of cooperation mechanisms, including the Intergovernmental Partnership Forum, the Joint Trade Committee, and the Defense Policy Dialogue.
In terms of trade, South Africa is Vietnam's largest trade partner and export market in Africa, with bilateral trade reaching nearly USD 1.8 billion in 2024.
In the future, both sides can enhance cooperation in sectors such as mineral extraction, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, steel, renewable energy, textiles, footwear, fertilizers, processed foods, and supporting industries.
As of July 2025, South Africa has 20 active investment projects in Vietnam, with a total investment of USD 0.88 million, ranking 109th out of 151 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
Vietnam has four investment projects in South Africa with a total capital of USD 8.86 million, ranking 45th out of 84 countries and territories where Vietnam invests abroad.
Both sides regularly coordinate and support each other well at multilateral forums.
