During the meeting, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc welcomed Deputy Secretary of State Landau's visit to Vietnam, appreciating its significance in enhancing understanding, consolidating trust, and deepening substantive cooperation between Vietnam and the United States.
The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, resilient, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and developmental foreign policy; diversifying and multilateralizing its external relations.
Vietnam is accelerating the renewal of its growth model, digital transformation, green transition, scientific and technological development, innovation, and enhancing the quality of human resources and economic resilience.
In this spirit, Vietnam wishes to cooperate with partners, including the United States, on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, and respect for each other's political systems, development conditions, and legitimate interests.
The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that Vietnam regards the United States as one of its leading important partners, aspiring to elevate the bilateral relationship to a deeper and more substantive level.
Regarding future cooperation directions, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc suggested that both sides continue to enhance delegation exchanges, contact at all levels, and consolidate political trust.
Mr. Pham Gia Tuc stressed that economic and trade relations are the main drivers of bilateral ties; affirming that Vietnam always welcomes and facilitates U.S. businesses to invest and operate in Vietnam, while suggesting close coordination to swiftly conclude negotiations on a fair and balanced trade agreement, harmonizing the interests of both parties.
Concerning issues of U.S. interest, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnamese law strictly prohibits all forms of forced labour; Vietnam is determined to combat and strictly handle intellectual property violations.
The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister positively assessed security and defense cooperation, suggesting effective implementation of signed agreements and gradually expanding into other areas of mutual interest. He also proposed that the United States enhance appropriate and effective cooperation in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation; promptly remove Vietnam from export control lists D1, D3, and recognize Vietnam's market economy status.
On international and regional issues, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the United States' continued interest and positive, responsible contributions to peace, security, and development in the region and the world.

Deputy Secretary of State Landau expressed thanks to the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister for the meeting; expressing delight in visiting Vietnam and participating in the ASEAN Future Forum.
Deputy Secretary Landau congratulated and highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and its increasingly important role in the region; affirming that the United States values its relationship with Vietnam and desires a strong, independent, resilient, and prosperous Vietnam to continue making practical contributions to peace, stability, and development in the region and globally.

Deputy Secretary of State Landau also agreed that both sides need to closely coordinate to effectively implement high-level agreements, promote substantive cooperation, and manage differences in an open and constructive spirit.
Deputy Secretary of State Landau stressed that the United States is committed to continuing close cooperation with Vietnam on regional and international issues. The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State noted that the government, the Department of State, and President Donald Trump personally appreciate Vietnam's participation along with the U.S. visit of General Secretary, President To Lam at the opening meeting of the Peace Board on Gaza in February 2026; demonstrating Vietnam's increasing commitment and role in ensuring and maintaining peace in the region and the world.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau are confident that, with the foundation of relations both sides have diligently built, Vietnam and the United States have the conditions to continue developing deeper and more substantive relations; contributing positively to a peaceful and prosperous Asia-Pacific region.
