Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang made the statement at a meeting with President Widodo in Jakarta on August 13 after presenting his letter of credence to the Indonesian leader.

Reporting to the President on the development of the strategic partnership set up in 2013 and on the two countries’ implementation of the action programme for 2014-2018, Quang affirmed that Vietnamese leaders and people want to further deepen these ties.

He stressed that Vietnam and Indonesia both have large populations and are big economies in the region, hence they have significant potential for stronger economic cooperation.

The diplomat affirmed that the Vietnamese Government has always created favourable conditions for long-term and effective operations of foreign investors, including those from Indonesia.

Quang proposed that the President and the Indonesian Government continue to encourage Indonesian firms to expand business and partnerships in Vietnam, thus increasing bilateral trade to fulfil demand and reach its full potential.

On the occasion, the ambassador wished Indonesia successful organisation of the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering (ALG), and the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Group next October. He told his host that Vietnam will be sending a delegation to the events.

For his part, President Widodo extended his delight at the bilateral relations and congratulated Vietnam on its recent socio-economic development.

The President wished Vietnam success in hosting the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in Ha Noi from September 11-13.

President Widodo said he is looking forward to discussing bilateral and multilateral matters with Vietnamese leaders as part of his visit in September.

Anticipating that the visit will see new agreements signed, the Indonesian leader stated that the Indonesian Government and business community wish to increase multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.

He believed the two nations will strengthen their mutual support concerning regional and international issues, thereby helping to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world at large.

The President congratulated Ambassador Quang on his taking office during a critical time of bilateral relations, believing that the diplomat will make worthy contributions to the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership with practical and effective outcomes.
