Addressing the ceremony, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh emphasized that the diplomatic sector has made significant contributions to glorious victories of our country's magnanimous history through the 75 years under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh - the founder of Vietnam's modern diplomacy.
The diplomatic sector has played a core and vanguard role in leading our country out of the status of politically isolated and economically embargoed; actively joined the settlement of remaining issues between Vietnam and neighboring countries and major powers, creating breakthroughs in the external relations.

In the era of national reform and extensive international integration, the diplomatic sector's mission is to continue creating favorable environment and conditions for accelerating socio-economic development, industrialization and modernization process.

This mission is aligned to the country's efforts in making active contributions to the common struggle of humankind for peace, independence, democracy and social progress.

The diplomatic sector has made significant contributions to expanding and deepening cooperation between Viet Nam and other countries. Viet Nam has established diplomatic relations with 189 out of 193 members of the United Nations as well as stable and long-term cooperation frameworks with 30 strategic and comprehensive partners, creating solid foundations for strengthening cooperation for mutual benefits and for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged the sector to further promote Viet Nam’s relations with foreign partners in a deeper and more effective, stable, and sustainable manner based on the Party’s principles and foreign policies, while balancing ties, especially with powers, strategic partners, and comprehensive partners.
He tasked the sector to intensify economic diplomacy, contributing to socio-economic recovery, facilitating locality-to-locality connections and links between businesses with foreign partners and new markets, and attracting high-quality foreign direct investment, creating growth momentum to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.
The sector needs to proactively integrate Viet Nam into the world, promoting multilateral foreign relations, and being more flexible and creative to win the trust of international friends and protect the country’s development security interests, contributing to firmly safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and seas and islands.

The Government chief ordered the diplomatic sector to improve research, consultation, and forecasting work, while enhancing exchanges with international friends to help them understand and support the country’s consistent views, especially on the East Sea issue.
He further noted that the diplomatic works have proved the sector’s pioneer role in consolidating an environment of peace and stability, thus facilitating the national construction and defense, attracting resources in service of the national development and unceasingly raising the country’s position.
Phuc took the occasion to praise the sector’s endeavors in the current COVID-19 fight and the country’s performance of the role of the Chair of ASEAN and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, as well as the President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
