General Secretary To Lam meets with Embassy officials and Vietnamese Community in Laos

WVR- On the evening of December 1, in the capital Vientiane, General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Laos.

During the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam provided a brief report on the bilateral relations, the living conditions of the community, Vietnamese businesses in Laos, and the Embassy activities. He stated that the special Vietnam-Laos cooperation is developing positively.

Political relations are being strengthened, becoming deeper, more connected, and trustworthy, affirming their core role and overall orientation in the bilateral relations. Defense, security, and foreign cooperation continue to be maintained, asserting their importance as key pillars. Economic, trade, and investment cooperation is progressing positively, achieving notable results.

Cooperation in culture, education, training, and human resource development continues to be prioritized. Collaboration between departments, ministries, sectors, and localities of both countries is being implemented effectively. People-to-people diplomacy is emphasized, with vibrant exchanges that further tighten the special friendship between the two nations.

In recent years, the Embassy has made significant efforts in advising the homeland, acting as a bridge between Party, State, National Assembly, Government, ministries, sectors, localities, and organizations, implementing specific tasks, contributing to further solidifying the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, and enhancing cooperation in all fields.

Ambassador Tam noted that the Vietnamese community always upholds the tradition of patriotism, unity, support, and mutual assistance, complying with laws and maintaining good relations with local authorities and people. The community's school system, from kindergarten to high school, is regularly cared for and developed, with attention to preserving the Vietnamese language and culture; religious and belief activities within the community are also supported and implemented.

The Embassy has directed and supported efforts to connect businesses, promoting economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, contributing to job creation, improving living conditions for Laotian people in project areas, contributing to the Lao State budget, and performing well in social welfare...

Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam stated that this state visit to Laos by the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation coincides with Laos' 50th National Day celebration—a significant milestone in the history of the Land of a Million Elephants.

During the visit, leaders of both countries held extensive and effective discussions, agreeing to elevate Vietnam-Laos relations to a new level: “Great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, strategic connection”, reflecting a shared vision, intertwined strategic interests, and a long-term partnership for sustainable development, resilience, and shared prosperity of the two nations.

Informing the community about the domestic situation, the General Secretary noted that despite various impacts from global conditions and natural disasters over the past year, Vietnam has maintained stability and development through persistent efforts and the unity of the entire Party, people, and military.

After hearing the Ambassador's report and other speeches at the meeting, the General Secretary expressed joy knowing that the Vietnamese community in Laos remains united, supporting each other in work, preserving cultural identity, complying with Lao laws, integrating with the local community, and being respected and trusted by Laotian friends; serving as an important bridge of friendship between the two nations, contributing to the development of bilateral cooperation.

Notably, it is commendable that the community always looks towards their homeland, with Vietnamese children born and raised in Laos still learning Vietnamese and understanding Vietnamese historical and cultural traditions.

Affirming that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, the General Secretary emphasized that the Party and State will continue to improve policies supporting expatriates in investment, study, research, entrepreneurship, teaching Vietnamese, knowledge transfer, and participating in cultural and people-to-people diplomacy activities.

The General Secretary is confident that the Vietnamese community in Laos will continue to develop, becoming more stable and integrated, and continue to be a solid bridge directly fostering the special Vietnam-Laos friendship; associations will continue to play a role in connecting expatriates to build a cohesive community, supporting each other.

The General Secretary highly appreciated and praised the efforts of the collective and each individual official and staff of the Embassy and Vietnamese representative agencies in Laos, overcoming difficulties and excellently completing foreign affairs tasks assigned by the Party and State; he also expressed confidence that the Embassy, representative agencies, and the Vietnamese community in Laos will uphold their fine traditions, maintain internal unity, and excel in all assigned tasks, deserving to be a solid bridge in the special Vietnam-Laos friendship.

The General Secretary urged the Embassy and Vietnamese representative missions in Laos to enhance their advisory role, promptly grasping policies and development orientations of the Lao Party and State to make appropriate and effective proposals and recommendations; strengthen diplomacy, diversify exchange channels with Lao agencies and localities; and enhance people-to-people diplomacy, creating broad consensus in Lao society regarding friendly relations with Vietnam.

Agencies need to create the best conditions to promote economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries; support Vietnamese businesses in exploring investment and business opportunities in Laos; help Lao businesses access the Vietnamese market; further care for the Vietnamese community in Laos; enhance citizen protection, support compatriots in legal study, work, and business; and coordinate with the community to maintain cultural activities and Vietnamese language education for the younger generation...
