The official reception was solemnly held at the Presidential Palace in Vientiane.
The motorcade carrying General Secretary To Lam and his spouse entered the Presidential Palace amidst a warm welcome from numerous students and residents of Vientiane, dressed in traditional Lao attire and waving the flags of both countries. General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse greeted General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse at the car stop.

After receiving a bouquet of fresh flowers from the children, the two leaders and their spouses moved to the honor position to prepare for the official reception.
The military band played the national anthems of Vietnam and Laos. General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith invited General Secretary To Lam to review the honour guard.
Following the ceremony, General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and General Secretary Tô Lâm warmly greeted and introduced the officials of both countries present at the reception.

Immediately after the official reception, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith led high-level delegations from both countries in talks to discuss measures to further deepen and enhance the comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
This is a state visit to Laos, attending the 50th National Day celebration of Laos, marking To Lam's first visit as General Secretary and participating in the meeting between the Politburos of Vietnam and Laos in Vientiane after nearly eight years since it was held in Hanoi.

The visit is a significant event occurring ahead of the national congress of each Party and the new term parliamentary elections in early 2026; following two visits and attending the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, national reunification, and the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam's National Day on September 2 by General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.
This is an important diplomatic activity, with historical significance, providing great encouragement from our Party and State to the Party, State, and people of Laos during this critical historical moment.

Before the official reception and talks with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath at the Lao Unknown Soldier Monument in Vientiane to remember and honor the indomitable spirit of the outstanding sons of the Lao people who sacrificed their lives for the liberation, defense, and construction of Laos.
