A milestone showing the development of the State of Vietnam

Russian website on December 28 published an article titled "To new heights: Viet Nam on the threshold of the 13th National Party Congress" by Grigory Trofimchuk, Chairman of the Council of Experts Asia-Europe Research Fund.

In which, the author affirmed that thanks to the strategic guideline set by the CPV, taking into account all changes in the world, the region and the country, Viet Nam has made many impressive achievements across fields.

Viet Nam and its people are on the right track and become an example for many countries, he stressed, adding that the CPV will lead the nation in all aspects.

The main goal of the upcoming National Party Congress is to bring the country to a new stage of development

One of the factors behind Vietnam's success is "staff work". The author cites the recent speech of the Party Secretary-General and State President Nguyen Phu Trong at the recent national cadres' conference, saying that the cadres are always at the root of all issues, and that any success or failure depends on their actions.

Mr. Trofimchuk praised the CPV for being really close to the people. The Party never conceals what could hinder development and progress. Towards the upcoming National Party Congress, Vietnam pays special attention to organizing Party congresses at various levels, where all issues are discussed in detail and widely reported by the media.

Regarding the fight false information and sabotage activities by reactionary and hostile forces before, during and after the 13th National Party Congress, according to Mr. Trofimchuk, Vietnamese leaders are always fully aware of the plots of hostile forces and imbued with ways and methods to prevent dangerous tendencies in the political and social sectors.

A dynamic country with many success stories

Viet Nam’s latest success story is in the health sector, senior journalist Veeramalla Anjaiah wrote in his article, titled “Learning from Viet Nam on how to handle Covid-19”, published on the Jakarta Post (Indonesia) on December 28.

Viet Nam is a dynamic country with so many success stories of economic growth, exports, investment or tourism. The country's latest success story is in the health sector.

With 97.75 million people and a long border with China, Viet Nam had just 1,438 Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths as of December 25. This is one of the few countries in the world that has achieved great success in the fight against the novel coronavirus. In comparison, Indonesia had 700,097 cases and 20,847 deaths as of December 25, the highest in Southeast Asia and the third highest in Asia, after India and Iran.

The journalist wrote it is amazing to see that a developing country like VietNam can have a better health system and more effective government mechanism at a time when most developed countries are struggling to cope with the pandemic.

Mr. Anjaiah quoted Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang as saying that “There are many factors for Vietnam’s success. The first one is the early response to the pandemic.”

The diplomat said Vietnam correctly predicted the impact of the novel coronavirus and took drastic actions in early January, even before it had appeared in the country.

A promising point in the global supply chains

The Financial Times (UK) said on December 28 that multinational companies are ultimately building up facilities in Viet Nam as the country has solid record in making products to global standards, and to a widening network of free trade agreements, including recently with the EU and the UK. Viet Nam is becoming a promising point in the global supply chains.

The newspaper quoted VinaCapital's chief economist in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Michael Kokalari as saying the phenomenon of companies moving from China to Viet Nam is just starting, and “we will see an acceleration next year.” One prominent example is Apple, known for its huge manufacturing base in China.

Currently, new entrants to Viet Nam still come up against the considerable challenges that the country poses as a manufacturing destination

Local labour markets are not as deep as China’s. Industrial park space is in brisk demand, especially in the south around Ho Chi Minh City, where the bulk of Viet Nam’s clothing, furniture and other exporters are based. The city’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport has long operated at well over capacity. An expansion is under way, and a new airport is being built, but it is scheduled to be ready only in 2025.

In addition, many of the components used to manufacture high-value products in Vietnam, from microchips to smartphones, are still sourced from China, South Korea, Taiwan or elsewhere, and flown in for assembly there.

However, businesspeople say the Vietnamese market is adjusting to all these difficulties, even amid the pandemic.

Viet Nam’s big numbers remain robust. Despite the pandemic, foreign direct investment disbursements are down only 2 per cent in the year to November, at US$ 17.2 billion. The Vietnamese economy is on track to grow by 2.4 per cent this year, and for 2021 the government is targeting growth of 6.5 per cent.
