Could you elaborate on the significance and outcomes of General Secretary To Lam's attendance at the Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Peace on Gaza?
The trip of General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Peace on Gaza marks the first major multilateral international diplomatic activity of our Party and State at a high level following the 14th National Party Congress.
This crucial diplomatic activity is a step in implementing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, resilience, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, as outlined in the 14th National Party Congress. Vietnam aims to contribute positively and responsibly to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development, as well as to address common regional and international issues.
In line with General Secretary To Lam's recent article “Enhancing Comprehensive Diplomacy to New Heights”, this significant multilateral diplomatic activity demonstrates our goodwill and efforts to promote peace in the Middle East and ensure the fundamental national rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to establish a Palestinian state in the Middle East. This visit also helps to strengthen Vietnam's relations with the host country and international partners, including Middle Eastern nations.
During the meeting, the General Secretary discussed Vietnam's stance on the Middle East peace process and the Palestinian issue, reaffirming the views and spirit of the Vietnamese people, a nation that has endured much sacrifice and loss from war and consistently strives for peace.
As a result, international and local media highly appreciate Vietnam and General Secretary To Lam's role as a founding member of the Board of Peace on Gaza and his leadership of the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation at this meeting.
Public opinion views Vietnam's participation as a reflection of its foreign policy, which seeks to contribute to global peace and development, and recognizes the international respect for Vietnam's position and potential contributions.
During these exchanges, the General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam will make practical contributions, such as participating in peacekeeping operations to ensure stability in Gaza and engaging in humanitarian aid or post-conflict reconstruction activities.
During this mission, the General Secretary held discussions with senior leaders from various countries, including those from the Middle East and other regions attending the meeting.
With the host country, General Secretary To Lam met with U.S. President Donald Trump, engaged with U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, had phone conversations with U.S. Senators, and met with the Vietnamese community in the U.S.
Meetings between Politburo members, ministers, and their U.S. counterparts were conducted effectively and substantively.
In these meetings, the General Secretary and delegation members shared information about Vietnam's situation and the outcomes of 40 years of renovation, including five years of implementing the 13th National Party Congress Resolution with development goals set for 2030 and 2045.
The General Secretary also shared Vietnam's development directions and foreign policy, continuing to promote relations with partners, including the host country, the U.S., in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.
The General Secretary's mission is part of the overall diplomatic activities we are implementing soon after the 14th National Party Congress, starting with very successful important diplomatic activities with neighboring countries.
These include the State visit of the General Secretary and the high-ranking delegation of the Party and State to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, followed by a State visit to Cambodia, attending a meeting between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party, and a meeting of the three party leaders of Cambodia – Laos – Vietnam. Upcoming are significant diplomatic activities with our neighbouring countries.
What are the directions for implementing the outcomes achieved during the trip, Minister?
In the coming period, we will specifically study and implement the Peace Plan with three major directions.
First, stabilize the situation in Gaza and ensure the implementation of the ceasefire.
Second, initiate long-term reconstruction in Gaza, starting with meeting the essential needs of the people in Gaza, restoring infrastructure, and gradually developing various economic sectors in Gaza.
Third, build the foundation and enhance the capacity, administration, and governance of the Palestinian people in Gaza. We will specifically study to identify areas where we can participate, as we have participated in United Nations peacekeeping activities and received high praise from the UN.
Our military and police forces can engage in UN peacekeeping operations, ensuring safety and social order in Gaza, or training the police force in Gaza.
We can also participate in humanitarian activities and reconstruction – areas where we have extensive experience as a country that has endured many years of war and currently has capabilities in construction and infrastructure development.
We will also contribute to the efforts of other international partners, including countries and international organizations, especially UN agencies.
We will continue to participate in or support the efforts of countries within and outside the region to enhance peace in the Middle East, peace and stability in Gaza, and especially to ensure the fundamental national rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to establish their own state.
