WVR - At the invitation of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son paid an official visit to Germany from September 26-27. At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the State and Government of Vietnam always attach great importance to the strategic partnership with Germany.

The Minister expressed his sincere thanks to the German Government, people and the President personally for supporting a large quantity of COVID-19 vaccines and medical equipment in order to help Vietnam early controlling the pandemic and soon opening up for socio-economic recovery.

Regarding economic-trade relations, Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested the two sides continue to effectively implement the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). In order to create more favorable conditions for investment, business and trade activities between the two countries, the Minister hoped that the German Parliament will soon complete the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Agreement (EVIPA) and Germany supports the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the yellow card for Vietnam's seafood exports to the EU.

At the meeting, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier recalled his previous visits to Vietnam as Foreign Minister and the meeting with President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2021.

Expressing his impression on Vietnam's socio-economic achievements, the German President has delighted with positive development of the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

President Frank-Walter Steinmeier affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Germany in Southeast Asia as well as the Asia-Pacific region; believed that there are still plenty room and potential for cooperation in trade as well as in fields Germany has strengths such as science - technology, environmental protection, response to climate change, while agreed to coordinate in removing difficulties.

The two sides agreed to step up cooperation in new fields such as climate change response, renewable energy, etc. to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries, contributing to the implementation of the COP26 commitments.

On this occasion, Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for his support to Vietnamese community in Germany, and wished that the President and the German Government would continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community’s further successful integration and contribution to the development of the German economy and society, acting as a bridge between the two peoples.
