A peaceful natural canvas

In the past, the area around Ham Thuan lake was home to the K'ho ethnic community. They lived in valleys along the riverbanks. When the government decided to build a hydroelectric dam, the locals relocated to a new area in the commune.

The headwaters of Ham Thuan lake originate from the La Nga river. The lake spans approximately 2,500 hectares, with eight small islands scattered across its vast waters. It plays a crucial role in climate regulation and water supply for production and irrigation in the surrounding areas. Hence, it is often likened to a miniature "Ha Long Bay".

Ham Thuan lake was formed following the construction of the Ham Thuan-Da Mi hydropower plant, completed in the late 1990s. The lake covers thousands of hectares, surrounded by mountains and lush pine forests. In the early mornings, a mystical mist blankets the lake, reflecting the gentle golden sunlight, creating a poetic scene that captivates any visitor.

From above, the lake resembles a green silk ribbon winding around low hills, interspersed with small islands emerging from the water. In the distance, endless stretches of primeval forests echo with the sounds of birds and the whispering wind through the leaves.

A haven for adventure enthusiasts

Beyond its scenic beauty, the area offers a plethora of memorable experiences for visitors. You can kayak on the tranquil waters, feeling the coolness beneath the gentle highland sun. For photography enthusiasts, Ham Thuan lake is a paradise with countless stunning angles, especially at sunrise or when the sun sets, casting a golden glow over the lake.

The exploration becomes more exciting if you choose to camp overnight by the lake, sipping Lam Dong coffee amidst the mist and feeling the serene rhythm of the mountains at night. To further immerse in local culture, nearby homestays and farmstays offer specialties like grilled chicken with bamboo rice, grilled stream fish, or forest vegetables with sesame salt – all rich in the distinctive flavors of the Central Highlands.

In recent years, local authorities have focused on developing eco-tourism models at Ham Thuan lake, harmoniously combining with the conservation of its ecosystem. The road networks leading from National Highway 28B or from the centers of Bao Loc and Di Linh to the lake have been increasingly improved, facilitating exploration for both domestic and international tourists.

With its year-round cool climate, pristine beauty, and unique cultural imprints, Ham Thuan lake holds great potential to become a standout eco-tourism and resort destination in Lam Dong. It promises to be a promising name alongside established landmarks like Da Lat, Ta Dung, or Tuyen Lam lake.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life, Ham Thuan lake offers a rare tranquil retreat – a place where one can find peace, immerse in nature, and feel the breath of the highlands. Uncommercialized and serene, the lake's pristine beauty leaves a lasting impression on anyone who sets foot in this land.
