On the evening of November 12, in Kaysone Phomvihane city, Savannakhet province, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Lao Buddhist Coalition held the inauguration ceremony of the Three Jewels project at Dieu Giac Pagoda.

Attending were representatives of the Lao Buddhist Coalition in Savannakhet province, the Coordinating Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Laos, the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Savannakhet province, relevant departments of Savannakhet province, along with a large number of Vietnamese Buddhist followers residing and working in Laos.

Dieu Giac Pagoda's Three Jewels construction project has been implemented from January 2022 with a total investment capital of about 8.2 billion VND contributed by monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers both at home and abroad.

After nearly two years of construction, this pagoda has completed its restoration and upgrade to meet favorable conditions for Buddhist studies classes and plays as a center for community activities, cultural exchange and learning of Buddhist teachings for the Buddhist communities of Vietnam and Laos.

Dieu Giac Pagoda is the first Vietnamese pagoda of Buddhist nuns in Central Laos, built in pure Vietnamese architecture by Vietnamese people who settled in the 1930s. For nearly a hundred years, this pagoda has been a place of worship for both Vietnamese and Lao Buddhists.

According to Most Venerable Thich Minh Quang, head of the Coordinating Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Laos, in the coming time, the Coordinating Board will make more efforts to build more pagodas in provinces that are home of a number of Vietnamese people. These pagodas expect to be a cultural bridge and a place to connect overseas Vietnamese as well as between two Shanghas and two peoples.

According to data from the Coordinating Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Laos, Laos is now home to 15 Vietnamese Buddhist pagodas with about 20 monks and nuns. These pagodas are members of the Lao Buddhist Confederation and have close ties with chapters of the General Association of Vietnamese People in the country.

Vietnamese pagodas’ activities in Laos are consistent with Lao folkways and Buddhism, increasingly attracting a large number of Vietnamese and Lao communities to participate.
