Mr. Francisco Guterres "Lu Olo" was a respected leader with a significant role in the modern history of Timor-Leste. He served as President of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste from 2002 to 2007 and President of the Constituent Assembly from 2001 to 2002, contributing to the drafting of the Constitution of Timor-Leste. He was also a national hero in the struggle for Timor-Leste's independence from 1975 to 1999.
Expressing deepest condolences to Timor-Leste Ambassador to Vietnam João Pereira and all the staff of the Embassy, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emotionally wrote: “Profoundly mourn Mr. Francisco Guterres 'Lu Olo', former President of Timor-Leste.”
On behalf of the State, Government, and people of Vietnam, we extend our deepest condolences to the State, people of Timor-Leste, and the family of Mr. Francisco Guterres 'Lu Olo'.
