Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong pays tribute and signs condolence book for Former President of Timor-Leste Francisco Guterres
WVR - On June 26, in Hanoi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong paid tribute and signed the condolence book for Mr. Francisco Guterres "Lu Olo", former President of Timor-Leste and Chairman of the Revolutionary Front for an Independent Timor-Leste (FRETILIN), who passed away on June 21, 2026.

Mr. Francisco Guterres "Lu Olo" was a respected leader with a significant role in the modern history of Timor-Leste. He served as President of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste from 2002 to 2007 and President of the Constituent Assembly from 2001 to 2002, contributing to the drafting of the Constitution of Timor-Leste. He was also a national hero in the struggle for Timor-Leste's independence from 1975 to 1999.
Expressing deepest condolences to Timor-Leste Ambassador to Vietnam João Pereira and all the staff of the Embassy, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emotionally wrote: “Profoundly mourn Mr. Francisco Guterres 'Lu Olo', former President of Timor-Leste.”
