Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang welcomes Chairman of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Network

At the meeting with Mr. Mark Kent, Chairman of the Vietnam - UK Friendship Network and the delegation, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her joy at the achievements of the Vietnam - UK Strategic Partnership, affirming that the relationship between the two countries is developing positively and effectively to the highest level ever.

The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to and constantly promotes relations with the UK in an increasingly deeper, more practical and effective direction. The Deputy Foreign Minister highly appreciated the active role of the Vietnam - UK Friendship Network in promoting bilateral cooperation through many practical activities in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchange.

In the spirit of the Strategic Partnership and in the context of the world situation undergoing great, rapid and complex changes, the world economy facing many difficulties, the two sides agreed to strengthen solidarity, promote potential, strengths, roles and positions, promote cooperation in all fields to serve the development goals of each country, contributing to peace, stability and prosperous development of the two regions and globally.

Thanking Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Mark Kent expressed his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, admired Vietnam's patriotism and adaptability in all circumstances, as well as its increasing role and position; affirmed that the UK always considers Vietnam an important, reliable and stable partner.

Chairman Mark Kent also expressed his pleasure to know that Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang is one of the founders of the Vietnam - UK Friendship Network; believed that with the affection and high political trust that the governments and people of the two countries have for each other, the future of cooperation will be very open.

Chairman of the Vietnam – UK Friendship Network Mark Kent expressed full agreement with the proposals put forward by Deputy Minister Hằng regarding enhanced collaboration between the two sides. He supported efforts to deepen bilateral relations in a more comprehensive and substantive manner, with a particular emphasis on strengthening high-level exchanges; renewing and enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation in trade and investment, science and technology, education, tourism, and training; as well as supporting Vietnam in developing a high-quality workforce in key sectors such as international finance and semiconductors. He underscored the importance of leveraging opportunities from the UK – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) and the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP); and of promoting people-to-people exchanges to consolidate the cultural bridge between future generations of both countries.

Mr. Kent proposed that both sides consider establishing a mechanism for swift coordination in response to global challenges, such as pandemics and climate change.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and Chairman Mark Kent shared the belief that the Vietnam – UK Friendship Network will continue to serve as an effective bridge between the two countries, actively harnessing opportunities and potential for cooperation, and making meaningful contributions to deepening and elevating bilateral relations in the years ahead.
