Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong congratulated Timor-Leste on being accepted as the 11th member of ASEAN by the ASEAN Leaders at the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, affirming that Vietnam always supports and is ready to share experiences with Timor-Leste in the first years of joining.

Regarding bilateral relations, the Deputy Foreign Minister highly appreciated the good friendship and cooperation between the two countries, saying that in the coming time, the two sides need to further promote their strengths and potential for cooperation, including maintaining exchanges of high-level delegations and at all levels, and strengthening cooperation in potential areas such as agriculture, telecommunications, trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Ambassador João Pereira thanked Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong for his good feelings towards Timor Leste, as well as his valuable comments on promoting the relationship between the two countries.

Emphasizing that Timor Leste appreciates Vietnam's effective support and assistance to Timor-Leste in the process of applying for ASEAN membership, the Ambassador affirmed that Timor Leste always values ​​the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation and wishes to learn from Vietnam's experience, especially in management, economic development and regional and international integration.

The Ambassador emphasized that he will do his best during his term in Vietnam to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
