On the morning of July 12, a delegation from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, held a meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands at the Embassy in The Hague. Attending the meeting were Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Huong Nam, Embassy staff, and over 40 overseas Vietnamese from various parts of the Netherlands.
After a welcome art performance by Vietnamese associations, Ambassador Nam introduced the current situation of the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands and the Embassy’s work related to overseas Vietnamese.
According to the Ambassador, as of July 2025, the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands totals 27,237 people. They are scattered across cities such as Almere, Purmerend, Hoorn, Harlingen, Leeuwarden, Spijkenisse, etc., making up a small group that accounts for about 0.15% of the Dutch population.
The majority have obtained citizenship, live and work stably, and are well integrated into local society. They also actively maintain ties with their homeland. The Vietnamese people's dedication to education is highly appreciated by the local community.
Since the early 2000s, more Vietnamese have come to the Netherlands to pursue doctoral research, master's, and undergraduate studies, focusing on areas such as scientific research, high technology, software, and logistics.
Community associations have made notable progress, with organizations such as the Vietnamese Association in the Netherlands (established in October 2022), the Vietnamese Women’s Association in the Netherlands (January 2023), the Vietnam Women's Union in the Netherlands, and the Vietnamese Intellectuals and Scientists Association in the Netherlands (established in 2007). Vietnamese language classes and the Truong Sa Club are also very active.
At the meeting, representatives from various community organizations in the Netherlands, such as President of the Vietnamese Association Ngo Thi Bich Ngoc, President of the Vietnamese Association in Den Haag city Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, President of the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association Lam Viet Tung, representative of the Vietnamese Women's Association Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, the Vietnam Women's Union in the Netherlands, and Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union in Europe Vu Ngoc Mai, reported on their activities and made several recommendations to the Party, the State, and the Government on policies related to economic development, science and technology, and support for overseas Vietnamese.
These representatives expressed their gratitude to the Party, the State, and the Government—especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy—for always caring for the rights and interests of the overseas Vietnamese. They shared their joy about the nation’s recent achievements and global standing, and showed eagerness to contribute to the country's new era.

At the same time, they expressed hope for more favourable conditions regarding citizenship, procedures related to business and online payments; support for funding and training in teaching Vietnamese online; and opportunities to welcome art troupes from Vietnam to promote cultural exchange and heritage.
In her remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome from the community and their impressive self-organized performance programme, which reflected rich Vietnamese cultural identity and deep love for the homeland.
Notably, the performances included elderly participants and young children. She praised the community’s active efforts in building solidarity, preserving the Vietnamese language and culture, participating in charitable activities to support disaster relief efforts in Vietnam, and contributing to initiatives for the homeland’s sea and islands, especially Truong Sa.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hang shared with the community the purpose, significance, and outcomes of the delegation’s visit to the Netherlands, as well as updated them on Vietnam’s socio-economic development and foreign policy, including the friendly and cooperative relationship with the Netherlands.
Sharing the nation’s determination and efforts in carrying out comprehensive reforms to rise in the new era, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang called on the overseas Vietnamese to continue making valuable contributions, maintain unity, build a strong and well-integrated community, enhance their reputation in the host country, and preserve the Vietnamese language, culture, and traditions.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that in all policies, the Party and Government of Vietnam always care about the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese. Policies have been increasingly favourable to strengthen connections with the homeland, such as amendments to the Nationality Law, Land Law, Housing Law, Business Law, and the Identity Law. The community's role and potential are being promoted through initiatives like Resolution 57 on Science, Technology, and Innovation, and the Law on Science and Technology, with many measures to encourage intellectuals and experts to contribute to the nation.
Encouraging the community to organize more activities to strengthen bonds and nurture unity, culture, and language, the Deputy Foreign Minister also requested that the Embassy continue to support and accompany the Vietnamese community, serving as a warm and welcoming common home for all overseas Vietnamese.
