The week-long event was held as an initiative of the Danish Embassy in Vietnam and co-organised by the Ha Noi-based University of Civil Engineering.

Denmark is among the world’s leading nations in terms of green technology and green growth is an important area in the comprehensive cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese and Danish Governments, said Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Charlotte Laursen.
She said that the seminar would create an opportunity for both sides to exchange ideas and measures to build green and sustainable cities.
Meanwhile, Bo Monsted, Commercial Counsellor at the Danish Embassy, noted that like Vietnam, Denmark is also facing numerous challenges such as flood, salt water intrusion, land erosion and poor quality of surface water.
To address these issues, the Danish Government has paid attention to the management of water, flood-prone areas, urban drainage systems, and water quality.
Sharing a successful story in urban planning of Aarhus city, head of the city’s Technique and Environment Department Mogens Bjorn Nielsen said that Aarhus’s master plan in 2017 focus on the sustainability of ecology, society and economy.
New constructed areas in the city are the mixture of various kinds of houses, he said, adding that Aerhus is now a green city with natural diversity and more water surface.
An exhibition open to the public from December 12-17 at Ly Thai To Square will showcase the best sustainable architecture designs and city development projects from Denmark.
Another event held within the framework of the week is the final round of the competition “Raising Awareness on Green City Solutions in Vietnam”, where the best ideas on ensuring greener and cleaner will be awarded.
Similar events will be organised in Ho Chi Minh City from December 14-19.
