In his remarks at the event, Aleksei Vasilchenko, President of Vladivostok International Airport, said the deal will combine the VVO’s strengths in facilities and operational experience and Vietjet’s flight network and quality air services to create best benefits for passengers.

The cooperation, at the same time, will boost trade and investment and satisfy demand for travel and freight services between the two nations through the launch of more flights in the near future, he said.

Vietjet Air Deputy Director General Do Xuan Quang, for his part, said the partnership will pave the way for the airline’s plan to open services to Russia in 2020 that will benefit millions of Vietnamese people and flyers from regional countries.

It will also contribute to enhancing the long-standing relations between Vietnam and Russia, he added.

The cooperation with Vladivostok International Airport is part of Vietjet Air’s strategy to expand its network to Northeast Asia and Russia.

The 5th Eastern Economic Forum is being held in Vladivostok on September 4 – 6. The event draws the participation of around 8,000 delegates from more than 50 countries worldwide.

Highlights of the three-day forum is a plenary session on September 5 with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in attandence.

The business programme of the 5th EEF focuses on four topics, which are new solutions to accelerating economic growth, improving the business environment, fostering collaboration between the Far East and Asia Pacific, and new solutions to improving quality of life.

The EEF was established by a decree of President Vladimir Putin in 2015 to support the economic development of Russia’s Far East and to expand international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The 4th edition in 2018 saw the signing of 220 deals with a total value of 45 billion USD.
