Vietstar and the University of Ulsan jointly develop a sustainability leadership program for senior leaders of Vietnamese enterprises

On May 3, 2024, at the University Of Ulsan, South Korea, a Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony took place between VIETSTAR Training & Consulting JSC - Vietnam's leading training and consulting organization, and the University Of Ulsan - South Korea (ranked 13th among the best universities in South Korea according to the 2024 Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report).

The two parties agreed to jointly develop a Sustainability Leadership Program for senior leaders of Vietnamese enterprises.

Sustainable development has become a pervasive global trend. At COP26 (the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference), Vietnam committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Subsequently, at COP28 held in Dubai, UAE, from November 30 to December 12, 2023, Vietnam reaffirmed its strong commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 while conveying the message of "commitment coupled with action" centered around emission reduction and transition goals in implementing climate objectives.

Vietnam's recent commitments and actions have been reflected in Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction and Ozone Layer Protection, Decision No. 01/2022/QD-TTg promulgating the list of sectors and establishments subject to greenhouse gas inventories, Decision No. 888/QD-TTg approving the Scheme on tasks and solutions for implementing the outcomes of COP26, the action plan to reduce methane emissions by 2030, as well as the sustainable development orientation of large corporations/companies in Vietnam.

With the desire to equip Vietnamese leaders with the latest methods and knowledge through Sustainable Leadership Development revolving around the 3P model: People - Planet - Profit; Building innovative strategies for Sustainable Transformation; Combining technological advancements with climate science principles for effective business transformation; and the Impact of ESG factors on investment decisions;

In addition to these core benefits, the Program also provides an opportunity to share experiences on Sustainable Leadership Development between Vietnamese leaders and University Of Ulsan professors, experts, and leaders from leading Korean conglomerates such as SK Group, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group (Hyundai Heavy Industries), etc.

It can be said that the Strategic Cooperation Agreement signing ceremony between VIETSTAR - Vietnam and the University Of Ulsan, South Korea, on Sustainable Leadership Training Cooperation is a pioneering step aligned with the sustainable development orientation of large corporations/companies in Vietnam and Vietnam's National Sustainable Development Goals.

Previously, VIETSTAR and the University Of Ulsan successfully collaborated on the Comprehensive Leadership Program for leaders from the Vietnamese energy industry.

This Sustainability Leadership Programme represents a more profound and upgraded cooperation in senior leadership training between Vietnam and South Korea.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing Ceremony was witnessed by the leaders of the University Of Ulsan and Korean corporations.

Sharing this cooperation agreement, Ms. Pham Thi Thu Hang, CEO of VIETSTAR, stated: "Sustainable development has transcended the concept and become an essential requirement for all business activities. According to data from the Foreign Investment Agency (Ministry of Planning and Investment), by the end of 2023, Vietnam has attracted 39,140 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects, with a total registered capital of 468.917 billion USD. Among them, Korea is the leading country investing in Vietnam with 9,863 projects, with a total registered capital of 85.865 billion USD, accounting for 25.1% of total FDI projects and 18.3% of total registered FDI capital In Vietnam.

With the signing of this Memorandum of Agreement in 2024, the two parties will focus on developing the Sustainability Leadership Programme for senior leaders of Vietnamese enterprises. At the same time, they will strengthen international cooperation in training linkages, as well as cultural, scientific, and business exchanges between Vietnam and South Korea, with a focus on promoting sustainable development in line with the global trends of COP26, COP28, and Vietnam's national sustainable development goals.
