Ceremony for posthumous award of the Order of the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine to the Late General Vo Nguyen Giap
WVR - On the afternoon of June 19, at the private residence of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Embassy of Palestine in Vietnam, solemnly organized the ceremony to posthumously award the Order of the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine to General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Attending the ceremony on the Vietnamese side were General Phan Van Giang, Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense; Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the Central Committee; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang, along with leaders from various ministries, departments, the Ministry of National Defense, leaders of Quang Tri and Dien Bien provinces, and representatives of General Vo Nguyen Giap's family.

On the Palestinian side, there was Mr. Saadi Salama, Ambassador of Palestine to Vietnam, and staff from the Embassy.
At the ceremony, under the authorization of President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, Ambassador Saadi Salama announced the decision and presented the Order of the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine posthumously to General Vo Nguyen Giap.

In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Saadi Salama emphasized that history remembers leaders not only for their victories but also for the values and legacies they leave for humanity. General Vo Nguyen Giap is one such figure, with an influence that extends beyond Vietnam's borders, becoming a symbol in the collective memory of peoples fighting for independence, freedom, and human dignity.
According to the Ambassador, Vietnam's success has affirmed that the struggle for independence and freedom is not only about achieving victory over war and oppression but also about paving the way for building a peaceful, stable, prosperous, and equitable society, while positively contributing to international peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
The Ambassador stated that President Mahmoud Abbas's decision to posthumously award the Order of the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine to General Vo Nguyen Giap is a recognition of his historical position, glorious revolutionary career, and significant contributions to the Vietnamese national liberation movement and globally.

This is also a tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap's contributions to the struggle for independence and freedom of oppressed peoples; it also reflects the respect for his principled stance and steadfast support for the just struggle of the Palestinian people for self-determination, freedom, and the goal of establishing an independent Palestinian State.
The Ambassador emphasized that this prestigious Order not only reflects the deep affection of the Palestinian people for General Vo Nguyen Giap but also helps preserve his image, career, and contributions in the hearts of generations of Palestinians and those who cherish peace, justice, and freedom worldwide.

On behalf of the Party, Government, and People's Army of Vietnam, Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang expressed sincere gratitude to the State and President of Palestine for deciding to award this prestigious order to the late General Vo Nguyen Giap and other notable Vietnamese individuals on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Palestinian representative office in Vietnam.
General Phan Van Giang affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap have always been admired by generations of Palestinian leaders and people, with the Vietnamese people's struggle serving as a great inspiration for the Palestinian people.
The General also reiterated Vietnam's consistent stance of always supporting the just struggle of the Palestinian people and the two-state solution, expressing a desire for the relationship between the two countries to continue to develop strongly for the benefit of both peoples, contributing positively to peace and cooperation in the region and the world.

Emotionally honored to receive the prestigious award, Vo Hong Nam, representative of General Vo Nguyen Giap's family, expressed pride as the ceremony was warmly and solemnly held at the house at 30 Hoang Dieu, full of memories, coinciding with the 115th anniversary of the General's birth.
On this occasion, through the Palestinian Ambassador, the family representative respectfully presented President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine with the book Dien Bien Phu by General Vo Nguyen Giap, translated into Arabic.
