Celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Russia Day held in Hanoi

WVR - On the evening of June 9, in Hanoi, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko hosted a reception to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Russia's National Day (June 12, 1990 - 2025). Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, representatives from ministries and branches, the diplomatic corps, and international organizations in Hanoi attended the event.

Speaking at a reception to mark the National Day of the Russian Federation, Deputy Prime Minister Long emphasised that this occasion is not only a time for the Russian people to reflect on and take pride in their national history and development journey, but also an opportunity for the international community to express appreciation for Russia, a country of major global influence and a loyal, trustworthy comprehensive strategic partner of Vietnam.

Vietnam always attach great importance to the longstanding traditional friendship and the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, considering Russia one of Vietnam’s top foreign policy priorities, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long affirmed.

On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister extended heartfelt sentiments and warmest congratulations to the Russian Government and people.

The year 2025 holds great significance for both nations, as it marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia. Looking back on three-quarters of a century, Deputy Prime Minister Long expressed pride in the continuous development of bilateral friendship and cooperation across all sectors.

He highlighted that political and diplomatic relations have been increasingly consolidated, characterised by high mutual trust, forming a strong foundation for expanding cooperation in other areas. Economic and trade ties, energy and oil cooperation, education and training, science and technology, and defense-security collaboration have all witnessed positive growth.

Expressing confidence in the future, Deputy Prime Minister Long affirmed his belief that the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia will continue to thrive, contributing to the shared prosperity of both nations, and to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Vietnam is committed to fostering substantive and effective cooperation across all fields for the mutual benefit of the two countries' people, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed.

In his remarks, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko noted that in the year 2025, there are a number of major anniversaries in the histories of both the Russian Ferederation and Vietnam. In April, the Vietnamese people commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, an will commemorat the 80th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. In May, the Russian people marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Reflecting on bilateral cooperation, Ambassador Bezdetko highlighted the consistent strengthening of Russia–Vietnam relations in recent years across a broad range of areas, guided by the spirit of a comprehensive strategic partnership. The Ambassador noted that the defining elements of this relationship remain the regular and substantive dialogue at high and highest levels, the frequent exchanges between ministries and agencies, party-to-party and parliamentary cooperation, as well as people-to-people diplomacy.

Ambassador Bezdetko recalled the most notable bilateral exchanges in 2025, including Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to Hanoi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son’s trip to Moscow. Most notably, General Secretary To Lam paid an official visit to Russia and attended the solemn celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. These high-level engagements led to important agreements to expand cooperation in key priority areas.

The Ambassador affirmed that planned activities within the framework of the Russia–Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation are being actively implemented. Direct ties between localities of the two countries are being established. Measures are being taken to more fully capitalize on the opportunities offered by the Free Trade Agreement between the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, signed on May 29, 2015.

The ongoing expansion in oil and gas, industrial production, agriculture, and transportation sectors. Key bilateral projects such as the Vietsovpetro and Rusvietpetro joint ventures, the Gaz Thanh Dat auto assembly plant in Da Nang, and the Vietnam–Russia Joint Venture Bank continue to operate effectively.

According to approved plans, the project to build a Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology in Vietnam is gradually becoming a reality. Support is also being provided for the Vietnam–Russia Tropical Research Centre, which now manages a modern mobile laboratory and the multipurpose research vessel Professor Gagarinskiy.

Furthermore, under an intergovernmental agreement, the Hanoi Branch of the A.S. Pushkin Russian Language Institute will be developed into a regional education centre, opening up new opportunities for bilateral cooperation in education. Academic exchanges between Vietnamese and Russian universities are also being strengthened.

Ambassador Bezdetko emphasised that the potential to deepen and expand bilateral relations is limitless, with the shared goal of ensuring prosperity and well-being for both countries' people.

* On the afternoon of June 11, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi also hosted a gathering to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Russia Day.The event was attended by Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko, Ambassador of Belarus to Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, representatives of Vietnam’s political and social organizations, the Central Vietnam–Russia Friendship Association and its local chapters, members of the Russian community, as well as many individuals with deep ties to Russia and Russian culture.

Speaking at the celebration, Ambassador Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko expressed pride in Russia — one of the oldest European powers with a history spanning thousands of years. He emphasized that hundreds of ethnic groups and nationalities have contributed to the protection, construction, and development of the country, united by a shared multiethnic culture and centuries-old traditions of tolerance, spirituality, and patriotism.

Ambassador Bezdetko expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; the Ministry of Science and Technology; and the Ministry of Education and Training for their close cooperation with the Russian Embassy in carrying out numerous significant activities. He also acknowledged the successful coordination in organizing the fifth session of the Russia–Vietnam Committee on Cooperation in Education, Science, and Technology.

He highlighted the successful performances of the Russian National Symphony Orchestra and artists from the Bolshoi Ballet in Hanoi, as well as the tour by top artists from the Moscow State Academic Ballet Theatre “Russian Ballet” named after V.M. Gordeev.

The Russian Ambassador to Vietnam also noted that the resumption of direct flights is boosting exchanges between delegations and the flow of tourists from both sides.

Following the speech by the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, Vladimir Vladimirovich Murashkin, Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi, shared that Russia Day is one of the most important holidays for all Russian citizens around the world. “This day symbolizes everything we hold dear — national sovereignty and independence, the unity of our people, and a shared appreciation for cultural and artistic diversity, literature, the power of the Russian language, the beauty of our nature, and our great scientific discoveries,” said Director V.V. Murashkin.

Mr. V.V. Murashkin expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese friends who accepted the invitation to attend the celebration. Looking back on history, he noted that the peoples of Russia and Vietnam are bonded by a shared past and united by a deep mutual respect for each other’s culture. The Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture firmly believed that “today, all the Russians and Vietnamese present at this event share a special affection and boundless love for our beloved Russia.
