Speaking at the conference, Chargé d'affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand Hoang Diem Hanh highly appreciated Can Tho City's choice of Thailand as the destination for this promotional and survey program. This is not only an opportunity to promote Can Tho's image but also a chance to exchange experiences in tourism development linked with the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values. Chargé d'affaires Hoang Diem Hanh expressed confidence that strengthening connections among riverine localities, businesses, and tourism management agencies of the two countries will open up many new cooperation opportunities, contributing not only to enhancing the quality of tourism products but also to promoting the sustainable development of the Mekong region.

Can Tho also possesses many advantages for tourism development, such as the Cai Rang floating market, a system of fruit gardens, traditional craft villages, distinctive Southwestern cuisine, and festivals rich in Southern cultural identity. Can Tho is focusing on developing tourism in a high-quality, sustainable, and smart direction; prioritizing the development of eco-tourism, leisure tourism, cultural and spiritual tourism, and MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions); while also promoting digital transformation in tourism promotion, marketing, and management. Through this conference, city leaders aim to strengthen connections with Thai businesses and investors to explore, invest, and develop tourism projects in Can Tho, enriching the tourism products of the ASEAN region and bringing practical benefits to businesses and citizens of both sides.

Ms. Ratiwan Boonprakhong, Director of the Southeast Asia, South Asia, and South Pacific markets at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), who has many years of experience with the Vietnamese tourism market, affirmed that Can Tho City has great potential to attract Thai tourists. Can Tho needs to identify its outstanding strengths, such as Mekong Basin agricultural tourism, and determine the market segments and target groups to develop corresponding tourism products. According to her observations, Can Tho is suitable for tourists who love nature and a slower pace of life. The city offers visitors the most authentic local experiences without necessarily altering its inherent identity. Additionally, Ms. Ratiwan believes that the ultimate goal of tourism is the involvement of the community in leading and introducing their way of life and products they are proud of to tourists, thereby earning income from tourism to improve their lives.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Tuan, Director of An Phu Thien JSC, specializing in market establishment and tourism investment, stressed that the Can Tho City People's Committee is very enthusiastic about local economic development as well as tourism development. Particularly, through connecting Vietnamese and Thai businesses to organize this program, city leaders also hope that Vietnamese businesses will learn from the experience to develop the Western floating market. Huynh Thanh Tuan also resonated with the TAT representative's emphasis on placing people at the center of tourism development and expressed a desire to learn from the Republic of Korea's experience to apply it in the Mekong Delta, especially in Can Tho City, for comprehensive and balanced tourism development.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, Chairman of the Thai-Vietnamese Business Association in Bangkok and surrounding areas, emphasised that the speeches and discussions at the conference inspired him to organize groups of overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs to visit and seek cooperation and business opportunities in Can Tho. This city is closely linked with the Mekong River and offers a natural landscape distinct from other popular tourist destinations in Vietnam, which many Thai tourists have yet to discover. Mr. Nguyen Van Minh also noted that if there were a direct Bangkok-Can Tho flight, as there was before the COVID-19 pandemic, it would facilitate not only tourism to Can Tho but also to neighboring provinces, helping the entire region to develop.
