Operated by the Cai Mep International Terminal Co., Ltd. and situated in the Cai Mep estuary area within the Ba Ria-Vung Tau seaport, the 48-ha port boasts a minimum draft of 16.5 metres and a 600-meter berth. Its capacity exceeds 1.1 million TEUs.

Previously, the terminal was granted permission by the ministry to conduct trial runs and extend the trial period for receiving container ships with a capacity of up to 214,121 DWT in 2020.

Simultaneously, the Vietnam Maritime Administration approved the safety plan for container ships of the aforementioned tonnage to enter and depart from the CMIT. It directed the Vung Tau port authority to only grant permits to the eligible ones carrying less than its full load to enter and depart from the port, ensuring absolute maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
