ASEAN Food Fair in Mozambique: Connecting communities, spreading the spirit of kindness

This was the first time the fair was held in Maputo, attracting around 300 attendees, including representatives from Mozambique's ministries and agencies, international organizations, ASEAN communities in Mozambique, and many local friends.
Following the opening ceremony with the ASEAN flag-raising, Timor-Leste's Ambassador to Mozambique, Luís Miguel Lopes de Sousa Sequeira, delivered a welcoming speech.
According to the Timor-Leste Ambassador, this event is an opportunity to further promote friendship and cooperation, enhancing mutual understanding and respect among the embassies and ASEAN communities in Mozambique.
The fair featured traditional food stalls from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Timor-Leste, along with captivating cultural performances to showcase the diverse and cohesive image of ASEAN countries to local and international friends.
The booth of the Vietnamese Embassy introduced traditional dishes such as pho, spring rolls, banh bot loc, and Vietnamese coffee, attracting many international and local guests.

For many Mozambican and international guests who have lived, studied, or worked in Vietnam, the event was more than just a culinary experience.
Many local friends couldn't hide their emotions when they rediscovered familiar flavors tied to their memories of Vietnam, enjoying hot pho, crispy spring rolls, and rich coffee.
Warm handshakes and stories in Vietnamese shared in the heart of Maputo are testament to the strong connections between international and Mozambican friends with Vietnam and its people.

The fair was also a festive day for the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian communities living and working in Mozambique.
Vietnamese expatriates and members of ASEAN communities eagerly interacted, sharing stories about life abroad, and enjoying music and signature dishes from each country.
The closeness and openness among the communities not only strengthened the solidarity within the “ASEAN family” in the region but also conveyed a strong message of a peaceful and united Southeast Asia.

Beyond being a cultural event, the fair carried profound social and humanitarian significance. After the program, all proceeds were donated by the embassies to the Lar Nova Esperança orphanage in Maputo, reflecting the spirit of sharing and support, contributing to spreading the humanitarian values of the ASEAN community in Mozambique.
