According to Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, Vietnam’s victory on April 30, 1975 stands as a powerful source of inspiration for revolutionary forces and anti-colonial, anti-imperialist movements around the world. President Ho Chi Minh had foreseen its global impact, calling it “a worthy contribution to the movement for national liberation.”
The Ambassador emphasized that the victory affirmed the strength of a just cause and the power of international solidarity. It was the result of a seamless combination of political, ideological, and people's warfare against an enemy superior in military technology and firepower.
He recalled a historic moment on September 15, 1973, when Cuban leader Fidel Castro stood on Hill 241 in the liberated South and praised Vietnam’s global influence. The Cuban leader called it “a great lesson for oppressed and exploited peoples in Asia, Africa, and Latin America,” and hailed “the immense contribution of the heroic Vietnamese people to all of humanity.”
Fifty years later, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes noted, Vietnam has once again achieved an extraordinary feat. Rising from the ashes of war and poverty, the country has built a future of peace, prosperity, and social justice — a triumph made possible only by the dedication, creativity, and unity of its people.
