Outstanding potential in Vietnam's southernmost region

An Giang, one of the provinces in the Mekong Delta key economic region, boasts a 200-km coastline, a vast fishing area of 63,290 sq.km, and more than 143 large and small islands. With a total natural area of 9,888.91 sq.km and a population nearing 5 million, the province shares a 147.888 km-long border with Cambodia, with seven border gates - three of which are major international crossings: Ha Tien, Tinh Bien, and Vinh Xuong.

The province is renowned for its beautiful white-sand beaches in areas such as Kien Luong, Ha Tien, To Chau, Kien Hai, and especially Phu Quoc Island - an ideal pearl island for eco-marine tourism and luxury resort development. An Giang is also one of the only five localities in Vietnam with two airports: Phu Quoc International Airport and Rach Gia Airport, offering significant advantages in transport connectivity, tourism, and investment attraction.

An Giang's tourism potential is both rich and diverse, encompassing marine eco-tourism, leisure travel, cultural-historical site visits, spiritual and religious tourism, sightseeing tours, and adventure travel. Notably, the Ba Chua Xu Temple at Sam Mountain, recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, welcomes millions of visitors annually.

These strengths have solidified An Giang's position on the tourism map through consistent efforts in foreign affairs and attracting international investment. With a strategic vision and proactive integration, the province has achieved remarkable results, significantly contributing to sustainable socio-economic development.

Promoting international cooperation and economic diplomacy

An Giang continues to build upon and expand cooperative and friendly relations with localities in nine countries (the Republic of Korea, Japan, France, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands). The province places particular emphasis on strengthening ties with partners, especially neighboring Cambodian provinces, to boost cross-border trade, cultural exchange, and defense-security cooperation.

An Giang also strengthens connectivity with other countries in the ASEAN region, the Middle East, and Africa to expand markets, attract investment, promote collaboration in areas of strength, as well as seek opportunities for scientific and technical exchange.

The province maintains and develops relations with potential partners from the Republic of Korea and Japan, focusing on large markets with advanced technologies to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and official development assistance (ODA) in high-tech industries and smart agriculture.

Additionally, An Giang continues to enhance cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges. The province works with partners to organize cultural, artistic, and sports exchange activities to foster mutual understanding and friendship between the people of An Giang and international friends, especially countries with long-standing cooperation like Cambodia, Laos, and India. This creates a firm foundation for friendships and stronger economic development collaboration.

Building global brands

An Giang is actively building brands for its key products to enhance value and competitiveness in global markets, particularly in the Halal industry. The province prioritizes the development of “green and clean” rice through the application of science and modern technology in farming.

At the same time, it is expanding relations with strategic partners and international organizations and making full use of free trade agreements (FTAs) that Vietnam is a member to expand export markets for its processed aquatic products.

APEC 2027 – A golden opportunity

Vietnam’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2027 will mark a significant milestone, elevating the country’s status on the global stage and affirming its role and influence regionally and globally. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to drive innovations in technology, management, and sustainable development, contributing to the country’s digital transformation and green transition.

Infrastructure projects serving the APEC meeting will not only meet the event’s demands but also serve as long-term foundations for local sustainable development, covering transportation, water supply, waste treatment, and energy.

For An Giang, APEC 2027 will strongly boost economic growth by attracting more FDI and stimulating key sectors such as tourism, real estate, and services.

In particular, for Phu Quoc, this event will generate numerous job opportunities for locals, from construction to tourism and entertainment services. It will further enhance Phu Quoc’s appeal to international visitors, leading to increased tourist arrivals and revenue post-conference. The accelerated implementation of APEC-related projects will help elevate Phu Quoc’s global standing and support An Giang’s ambitious goal of achieving double-digit growth.

To further promote its image abroad, An Giang will actively work with Vietnam’s overseas diplomatic missions to share information and introduce the province’s potential and advantages to foreign businesses and investors. At the same time, it will support the organization of international investment, trade, and tourism promotion events.

An Giang will actively and proactively connect with and provide information for Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to help promote and introduce the province's potential and advantages to businesses and investors in their host countries as well as support the locality in organizing investment, trade and tourism promotion events overseas.

With relentless efforts and support from the central government, An Giang is confident in achieving even greater success in foreign affairs, contributing to the development of a dynamic, integrated, and prosperous Vietnam.
