The beauty of Hanoi people
Since 2017, before the Program No.06-CTr/TU of Hanoi Party Committee on “Developing culture, improving human resources quality, building elegant and civilized Hanoians in the period of 2021-2025″ was implemented, Hanoi People’s Committee released 2 codes of Conducts include: “Code of Conducts of staff officers, officials in city’s agencies” and “Code of Conducts in public places for preserving, promoting Hanoi people’s culture and identity” with the aim to spread the Hanoi people’ cultural standards. It showed the utmost concern from Hanoi city’s leaders in building civilized and elegant Hanoi people.
After 5 years of implementation, the two codes of conducts have contributed to changing the awareness and actions of the capital's people, gradually forming a new culture. Determining that building culture and people is always one of Hanoi's priorities, the City is also spreading more widely the two codes of conduct to a large number of agencies, departments, branches and localities across in the city capital.
It can be said that the elegance of ancient Hanoi people is still promoted in Hanoi today. Even though urban life has changed almost everything, the dedication of Hanoi people still remains. It is a non-chaotic lifestyle; women are always elegant, chamrmingful and dedicate; and housework is highly respected.
The beauty of Hanoi’s culture has been nutured and profoundly developed from the traditional values. Those are the core values that bring immense pride no matter where the Hanoians go.
National Assembly Deputies Bui Hoai Son, Permanent Member of National Assembly’s Culture, Education Committee, former Director of Vietnam Culture, Arts Institute shared that elegant culture is the Hanoian pride, and also a typical representative of the country, people and culture of Vietnam. Therefore, we always hope to preserve and promote these values for today and future. These elegant features need to be expressed in all forms of cultural activities, from communication culture to behaviors, from culinary culture to fashional style, home decoration, in the family, at school to in society...and need to be honored through diverse and rich events and propaganda.
Pride and elegance have become characteristics, a high-level and standard culture of behavior expressed in many areas of social life of Hanoi people in the past and at present. The culture of Hanoi people, including culture in communication and behavior, has drawn attentionm from leaders, organizations and people. Building Hanoian culture is considered a central and thorough task.
Prof. People’s Teacher. Nguyen Lan Dung said that Hanoi people choose themselves a simple, idyllic lifestyle that is demure and slow in contacts and behaviors. For long-standing families in Hanoi with many generations living together, they have a fairly typical lifestyle from family activities, behavior between members, to educating children. Hanoi people is frankly, and that is a virtue that young people today should follow. In particular, Hanoi people have a high sense of responsibility, reasonability, and do not have the habit of being jealous of others. Perhaps, it is the factor that creates the elegant personality of Hanoi people.

The society has changed, family cultural traditions are no longer the same. Family members have independent lives. They respect each person's privacy and are not bound by feudal rituals. Even though they don't live together in the same house, it can be said that Hanoians still appreciate family values and in my opinion, that is a beautiful and respectful cultural feature, Prof. Dung said.
Hanoi with new breath
As the capital of the country, developing culture and building Hanoi people with elegance and civilization have been put on high priority by Hanoi Party Committee and its people, set as one of the main tasks of Capital’s innovation progress and also the country. But, we must look at it in a more dynamic direction, the culture and civilization of Hanoi people must be understood in a new way. An old-style elegant Hanoi needs to be in harmony with the process of urbanization and modernization and bring new breath.
It can be affirmed that Hanoi is the intersection of many cultural forms during the period of international integration. Therefore, it is important to maintain modern ways and ways of thinking along with the behavior of the ancients. The core value, no matter what circumstances of the time, is that Hanoians always know how to promote and preserve the civilization and elegance that have been forged through thousands of years of history. The elegance of Hanoi people is not only the apperance on the outside, but also contains the core of their identity, passed down through many generations.
It is the elegance of Hanoi people that makes the foundation for harmonious integration and diversification among ethnic groups in the community and in the world. It is also from this factor that Hanoi people can integrate deeply without being dissolving because it belongs to the unique and separate cultural identity of Hanoians that has existed for a long time.
Prof. Nguyen Lan Dung said that it is necessary to strongly spread a civilized and elegant lifestyle not only to every person living in the capital but also to international friends, bringing Hanoi's identity to international integration.
Therefore, according to Prof. Nguyen Lan Dung, the elegant and civilized beauty of the capital's people in the new era also needs to adapt to the new situation while retaining the traditional features.
In the current period of international integration, applying the achievements of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution to the work of preserving, promoting and spreading cultural values is necessary. The process of globalization and international cultural integration requires preserving and promoting national cultural identity.
"We are living in a digital era, science is changing life, however, what need to be maintained are cultural values. It can be affirmed that Hanoi is the intersection of many cultural forms during the period of international integration. Therefore, it is necessary to harmonize the old lifeslyle with the new one, to preserve modern ways of thinking together with the way of behaving of the ancients", Prof. Nguyen Lan Dung stated.
