President of Chilean Chamber of Deputies welcomes Vietnamese Ambassador, promotes parliamentary cooperation

On June 14, at the National Assembly headquarters in the capital Santiago, President of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies José Miguel Castro hosted a cordial reception for the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations operating in Chile, including Ambassadors, Consuls General and representatives of CEPAL, UNICEF, BID and many other regional and global agencies.

Speaking to more than 60 international guests, President of the Chamber of Deputies José Miguel Castro affirmed: “In the context of the world facing many challenges such as geopolitical conflicts, social polarization, climate change and inequality, Chile believes more than ever that dialogue, integration and multilateral cooperation are essential ways to overcome the crisis together and achieve sustainable development”.

President of the Chamber of Deputies José Miguel Castro particularly emphasized the role of legislative bodies in creating a common voice, contributing to global commitments on poverty eradication, gender equality, biodiversity conservation and climate change response, towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Representatives of the diplomatic community highly appreciated the initiative and open spirit of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies in enhancing dialogue, building trust and international cooperation. This is a positive sign of Chile's role in the global multilateral system.

During the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Nguyen Viet Cuong had a cordial exchange with President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile José Miguel Castro.

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong congratulated Mr. José Miguel Castro on being elected President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile from April 2025, and expressed his hope that the Chamber of Deputies of Chile will continue to play an active role in promoting parliamentary cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Chile, contributing to deepening the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two countries.

The Vietnamese Ambassador also expressed his hope that President of the Chamber of Deputies José Miguel Castro will have opportunity to pay an official visit to Vietnam in the near future, in order to enhance mutual understanding between the two legislative bodies as well as between the people of the two countries.

President of the Chamber of Deputies José Miguel Castro sincerely thanked Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong for his congratulations and goodwill, and expressed his deep admiration for the people and country of Vietnam - a country that has achieved many outstanding achievements in development and international integration.
