The credential presentation ceremony was solemnly held with the presence of President Catherine Connolly; Minister of State for Education and Youth, MP Michael Moynihan, representing the Irish Government; Secretary General of the Presidential Office Orla O'Hanrahan; Head of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, along with the President's aides.

During the ceremony, President Catherine Connolly congratulated and welcomed Ambassador Pham Toan Thang as Vietnam's first resident ambassador to Ireland. President Connolly praised the strong development of the multifaceted friendship and cooperation between the two countries and recalled the successful outcomes of the state visit to Ireland by General Secretary and President To Lam in October 2024, during which she had the opportunity to meet with the high-level Vietnamese delegation as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

President Connolly expressed confidence that the establishment of the Vietnamese Embassy in Dublin marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations, contributing to the effective and substantive implementation of agreements and cooperation programs across all fields, especially as the two countries approach the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Pham Toan Thang conveyed the best regards and wishes from President Luong Cuong and the leaders of the Party, National Assembly, and Government of Vietnam to President Catherine Connolly and the people of Ireland.

Expressing the honour of being appointed as Vietnam's first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ireland, the Ambassador affirmed that the newly established Vietnamese Embassy and he personally will make every effort to promote the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, focusing on areas of mutual interest and strength, particularly in priority sectors such as trade and investment, education and training, science and technology, and agriculture. The aim is to enhance coordination at regional and international multilateral forums, moving towards significant upcoming milestones in bilateral relations.

In a private meeting following the credential presentation, Ambassador Pham Toan Thang discussed in more detail with the President and representatives of the Irish Government about the current situation, prospects, and measures to boost bilateral relations in the near future.

President Catherine Connolly emphasized the importance of the trade and investment cooperation pillar, with the scale of bilateral exchange continuously increasing over the years. Both sides also shared the necessity of effectively implementing and elevating the Strategic Partnership in higher education established in 2024, aligning with the shared vision, interests, and growing needs of students, educational institutions, and policy-making bodies of both countries.

The President of Ireland highly appreciated the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community to Ireland's socio-economic development; meanwhile, she welcomed and thanked the Vietnamese Government for facilitating the activities of the Irish community in Vietnam.
