For his part, Deputy Minister Awadallah welcomed Vietnam's stance, stating that the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip requires substantial international support and expressing a desire for Vietnam to participate in areas where Vietnam has strengths and extensive experience.
The Ambassador and Director General of the Asia-Pacific Department Eragat also agreed that the two countries need to enhance economic cooperation to match the stature of their political relationship, affirming the facilitation of businesses and goods from both sides to penetrate each other's markets.
Ms. Eragat noted that although economic cooperation between the two sides is limited, once the conflict in the Gaza Strip ends, the situation will become more favorable for economic cooperation activities, creating conditions to enhance the organization of trade promotion events and connect businesses from both countries.
Ms. Eragat highly appreciated the results of educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in recent times, considering them effective bridges for the friendship between the two countries and peoples, expressing admiration for the number of Vietnamese students studying the Arabic language and culture, and considering this as evidence of the Vietnamese youth's interest in the Arab world, including Palestine.
Director General Eragat thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam for its initiative to coordinate with the Japan International Cooperation Agency to organize a training course for Palestinian officials at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam recently, proposing to expand international relations training programs for Palestine, enhance the organization of activities between friendship associations, solidarity organizations, student exchanges, cultural and sports exchanges... to increase understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
Looking back at history, Vietnam and Palestine have a solid foundation of relations, nurtured through many generations of revolutionaries. Since 1968, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam officially recognized the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Throughout the resistance against the United States, the struggle for national reunification, and the subsequent nation-building efforts, Vietnam has always received support and encouragement from generations of Palestinian leaders and people.
Immediately after the State of Palestine declared its establishment in November 1988, Vietnam was one of the first countries in the world to diplomatically recognize the State of Palestine. Over the past nearly four decades, the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Palestine have been continuously strengthened and developed.
The late Chairman Yasser Arafat, an outstanding leader of the Palestinian people, visited Vietnam 10 times, demonstrating deep affection and admiration for the Vietnamese people's liberation struggle.
During President Mahmoud Abbas's official visit to Vietnam in May 2010, the two sides signed several important agreements to serve as a basis for further promoting cooperation in various fields.
