A new Spring, a new momentum for Vietnam-China relations

WVR - As Vietnam enters a new phase of development following the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party, further strengthening and deepening relations with China — a socialist neighbor and a leading strategic partner — holds long-term strategic significance. This contributes to creating a peaceful, stable, and favorable environment for the nation's construction and development efforts.

Recently, the Vietnam-China friendship has continued its positive, stable development trend, deepening with increasing political trust, tangible cooperation across various fields, and closer, more intimate people-to-people exchanges.

In particular, the year 2025 saw both countries successfully organize meaningful activities, culminating in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Vietnam-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges, thereby reinforcing the social foundation for bilateral relations.

Building on this foundation, the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership aimed at building a Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future is strategically significant and is in a favorable development phase, opening up opportunities for more extensive and substantive cooperation in the future.

As Vietnam enters a new phase of development following the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party, further strengthening and deepening relations with China — a socialist neighbor and a leading strategic partner— holds long-term strategic significance. This contributes to creating a peaceful, stable, and favorable environment for the nation's construction and development efforts.

Immediately following the success of the 14th Congress, General Secretary To Lam held a phone conversation with China's General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to discuss major directions for developing bilateral relations in the coming period.

The top leaders of both Parties and countries emphasized the high importance of developing Vietnam-China relations, agreeing to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and promote the building of a Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future under the "6 more" orientation.

Both sides also continued the tradition of sending the General Secretary's Special Envoy to visit, congratulate, and report on the Congress's outcomes, viewing it as a vivid expression of high political trust. The recent visit to China by Le Hoai Trung, Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Special Envoy of General Secretary To Lam, held special political significance. It conveyed important messages from the 14th Congress, demonstrating Vietnam's high regard for Vietnam-China relations and creating new momentum for effectively implementing high-level common understandings and promoting substantive cooperation in priority areas.

During meetings, Minister Le Hoai Trung informed the Chinese side of the significant results and successful outcomes of the 14th Congress, clarifying new theoretical and practical perspectives of the Congress. He affirmed the Communist Party of Vietnam's determination to successfully achieve the strategic goals and tasks set forth, aiming to build a rapidly and sustainably developing country oriented towards socialism.

Minister Le Hoai Trung also shared new points in the foreign policy of the 14th Congress, particularly the inclusion of resilience in the policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, multilateralizing and diversifying foreign relations. For the first time, foreign affairs and international integration were identified as "essential, regular" tasks alongside national defense and security.

These strategic orientations enhance Vietnam's role and position as a responsible member of the international community, contributing positively and effectively to regional and global peace and development. They also open up significant cooperation opportunities for Vietnam and China to continue promoting more substantive and effective cooperation, focusing on priority areas such as science and technology, innovation, high-quality human resource training; strengthening strategic transportation connectivity, especially railway cooperation; boosting high-quality investment, balanced and sustainable economic-trade cooperation; expanding imports of goods, especially Vietnam's agricultural and aquatic products; and promoting cultural, health, and people-to-people exchanges, thereby continuously reinforcing the social foundation for bilateral relations.

I believe that, based on the high-level common understandings of the two Parties and countries, along with the strategic orientations set by the 14th Congress, Vietnam-China relations will continue to be guided towards stability, healthiness, and substance, aiming for an increasingly better future. This will bring tangible benefits to the people of both countries and contribute positively to regional and global peace, stability, and development.

Welcoming the Year of the Horse 2026 in the jubilant atmosphere following the success of the 14th Congress, the Vietnamese Embassy in China is determined to strive for the implementation of the Congress's Resolution. This contributes to spreading a strong message of a Vietnam steadfast in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, proactive and active comprehensive, deep, and effective international integration; harmoniously handling relations with partners, especially major countries, neighbors, and important partners, including China.
