Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Summit and thanked him for calling and sending a congratulatory letter on his election as Thai Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul affirmed that Vietnam is one of Thailand's important partners in Southeast Asia and expressed his desire to collaborate with the Vietnamese Prime Minister to enhance comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
The two Prime Ministers expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of Vietnam-Thailand relations, especially with the official upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2025. They agreed to closely coordinate in building an action program to implement bilateral relations in the new phase.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended his deepest condolences on the passing of Queen Mother Sirikit and appreciated Thailand's continued status as Vietnam's largest trading partner and second-largest investor in ASEAN. He proposed that both sides coordinate efforts to achieve a bilateral trade target of 25 billion USD soon, aiming for a balanced trade through facilitating market access, resolving obstacles, and exploring joint ventures to control prices and explore new markets. Additionally, they should enhance cooperation in mutually beneficial areas, especially by applying new technologies in oil and gas exploration, liquefied natural gas...
The two leaders emphasized the importance of implementing the "Three Connections" Strategy based on ensuring mutual benefits, particularly in supply chain connectivity, human resource training, and transportation and tourism connectivity. They agreed to establish a Joint Working Group and develop an action program to discuss and build the content and specific plans for implementing this Strategy.
Discussing security cooperation, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the importance of strengthening coordination and information exchange in combating terrorist and reactionary organizations, ensuring that no individual or organization uses one country's territory against the other.
The two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in education and training, people-to-people exchanges, and local connectivity. They aim to promote cultural exchange programs, especially in the year marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, to deepen understanding and bonds between the peoples of the two countries, particularly the younger generation.
The Thai Prime Minister welcomed Vietnam's efforts in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and agreed to coordinate and support capacity building to combat IUU, aiming to lift the EU's "yellow card".
The two leaders agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation, maintain solidarity, and unity within ASEAN, and promote ASEAN's central role in international and regional issues, including sustainable management and use of the Mekong River's water resources. They emphasized ensuring peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea based on international law, UNCLOS 1982, and full and effective compliance with the DOC, aiming to achieve the COC soon.
