10th Biennial Conference of AsianSIL: Promoting the shaping of legal solutions in Asia

WPR - On October 9, in Hanoi, the 10th Biennial Conference of the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) was held under the theme “Strengthening the Role of International Law in Asia”.

This is a biennial event that attracts the participation of scholars, judges, diplomats, and international law experts from Asian countries and around the world.

Over the past eighteen years, the Conference has made a significant remark and achieved success in creating a professional exchange forum in the field of international law, while also serving as a bridge connecting the community of international law researchers in Asia.

Speaking at the Opening Session, Ambassador, Dr. Pham Lan Dung, President of AsianSIL, stated that the world is undergoing profound transformations, in which strategic rivalries, technological disruptions, climate change, and global health challenges have unsettled the foundations of international order.

However, according to Ambassador, Dr. Pham Lan Dung, Asia also faces tensions, transboundary environmental crises, and new questions of governance in cyberspace, outer space, and the oceans.

In such a context, Ambassador, Dr. Pham Lan Dung believes that international law has contributed constructive participation across a wide range of fields, from trade and investment to the environment, human rights, security, and emerging technologies, while also opening up Asia’s diverse perspectives, rooted in history, culture, and practice, contribute meaningfully to the global evolution of international law.

Dr. Pham Lan Dung expressed her expectation that this conference will serve as an ideal platform for countries to engage in discussions and exchanges, both in depth and breadth, across a wide range of topics.

This not only reflects Asia's active involvement in the field of law but also affirms the region's commitment to shaping legal solutions for both long-standing and emerging challenges.

Besides that, this conference brings together multiple generations, reflecting that the future of international law rests in the hands of young scholars who bring creativity, fresh perspectives, and determination to the field.

The 10th Biennial Conference of the AsianSIL includes two plenary sessions and multiple concurrent panels covering the full spectrum of international legal issues: the law of the sea, dispute settlement, international investment law, environmental law, human rights, artificial intelligence, and data governance.
