Who is new UNICEF Representative in Vietnam?

WVR - UNICEF has appointed Ms. Silvia Danailov as its new Representative in Viet Nam, with her tenure commencing in August 2024.

Ms. Danailov, a passionate advocate for child rights, steps into her role with a commitment to support continued change for the benefit of every girl and boy in Vietnam - building on the significant progress made over the past decades. With more than 25 years of development and humanitarian experience, Ms. Danailov is committed to enhancing the protection and support of children and women.

"Devoting my life to promoting and protecting women and children’s rights and wellbeing has been a passion and a mission of mine. My commitment is driven by my professional experience within various sectors, including the United Nations, Government, INGOs and academia and by the many wonderful encounters I have had with children and women around the world", says Ms. Danailov.

Prior to her new role, Ms. Danailov served as the UNICEF Representative in Senegal and held numerous senior roles at UNICEF Headquarters and in diverse countries, including Haiti, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Somalia, in addition to her work in academia, government and non-governmental organisations in Switzerland.

Ms. Danailov, a dual citizen of Serbia and Switzerland, holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Master's degree in International Relations with a focus on public international law.

When not dedicated to her work, Ms. Danailov enjoys spending time with her family, reading, theater, swimming, and savoring coffee at any time of the day. She is married and a proud mother of two children - a 12 years old boy and 8 years old girl.

Receiving Ms. Silvia Danailov on August 7, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet highly appreciated UNICEF's role in the field of child care and protection, especially UNICEF's effective support and cooperation with Vietnam over the past decades.

The Deputy Minister believes that with many years of experience and professional capacity, Ms. Silvia Danailov will make positive contributions to promoting cooperation between UNICEF and Vietnam in the coming time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to support the UNICEF Office in Hanoi and the UNICEF Representative in implementing activities in Vietnam.
